Gen Con Reports?

Queen D and The Universe both really got into their characters, with vocal stylings, physical tells, and broad comedy and I'll be honest--this is often a recipe for "Spotlight Hogs". Not in this case, they were near perfection as fellow Players.

I on the other hand was happy to be my normal, unabashed, "Spotlight Hoggy" self.

I blame Piratecat for giving me the most arrogant character in the bunch!

Oh and by the way, Henry, thanks to my buddy, Kiznit, I got a chance to meet my lord and personal savior, Robin Laws. Whereupon I proceeded to gush all over him in fanboy fashion about how he had personally completely revolutionized my approach to player satisfaction with my game, made me a better GM and cleared up my acne. I expounded for a moment on the fact that I use every ounce of my mighty powers as an ENWorld Mod to see to it that people read his book and are shown the light.

He shook my hand, told me it was hugely gratifying to hear that...and then the awkward silence which I ended by saying, "So anyway, I'm off to the strip club! Nice meeting you!"

Getting to sit and chat with Robin was definitely a highlight of the con for me! Much thanks for the lovely folks from Atlas Games who called him from the bar to come up and hang with us (they knew him from Feng Shui, which he wrote) and he even signed my copy of Pantheons (a brilliant game that I heartily recommend) which I JUST HAPPENED to have in my book bag. I gushed too, Rel. I thought I was in gamer fanboy nirvana, but believe it or not, things got even cooler!

Keith Baker came over and chatted about stuff and then went over to the bar and bought me a beer! ("Dude! You bought robots into D&D!") and then Peter Adkinson showed up and chatted for a while! I felt like I was hosting the Chris Farley show.

"Dude, hey, remember when, like, you saved D&D?"

"...yeeeah."

"That was, like, AWESOME!"

Honestly, thanks so much to Tef and Dextra for getting me over to their table. You guys are the ambassadors of gamer fanboy glee! BEST TWENTAY DOLLRS SPENT EVAR!!

...And Atlas Games, you guys are the coolest couple ever! Thanks for making my night!

Crap! I forgot to list Rel in that Supers Game writeup. Sorry buddy.

so anyway...

The next game I played was much anticipated. Fusangite, Maddman (with whom I've always wanted to game), Direkobold and a couple of other guys all took D20 Dwarf's latest "Module in Progress" for a spin.

It was at 9am and was a laugh riot...though it's debatable whether it was intended to be or not.

As the DM read the boxed text he kept coming across things that desperately needed editing. In one instance the word draw appeared somehting like 71 times in a single paragraph...

[bq]...the drawings on the cliff wall are intended to draw the adventurers away from the draw in the shoreline. Should the players draw their weapons as they draw closer...[/bq]

...and so on:)

We were pretty drunk by 11am, but more than sober enough to point out that when describing a cave entrance to PC's as a "Mucous and slime coated hole", it is crucial that the DM not describe the groups entrance into it as "penetration"

An enjoyable time to be sure :)

WONDERFUL posts! :D

Anymore for us who could not be there?

I'm sure there will be a flood of them after people get a chance to get rested and unpacked and so forth.

Well firstly, let me thank all of you at ENWorld for the warm welcome you extended me upon meeting each of you.

On Wednesday - I visited the Canadiana suite and met Rystil Arden and Old One. And though I met a few others that night, I was definitely the odd man out. Being my first ENWorld event, it was a little unnerving trying to meet people without feeling like I was "shoe-horning" my way into your conversations.

Thursday things turned around quickly as I made my way to the booth and began introducing myself and the evening ending in Paranoia O.R.C. & P.I.E. and then a visit to the Ram afterwards was quite the treat. Piratecat, should you ever run for office I want on your campaign team, your speech at the mission de-briefing ending in your execution was truly a thing of beauty. Crothian you're awesome and I can't wait to at least watch this game next year! Thanks to Xath, Frater, Shaylon, Alenda and Belen Umeria for not killing me too many times and the tons of great gaming memories I took away from this table! I will probably always dive for cover when I hear Xath sneeze, and I may begin carrying a plank just for the heck of it!

Friday was the ENnies and what an event! Let me first apologize for the slight audio problems we had early on. After setting up the board and labeling everything, someone switched the microphones without my knowledge. I hate when little things like that happen, but I bear all responsibility! Other than that and a brief time when Teflon Billy obstructed my view of the stage resulting in a musical mishap, the evening went by fairly well. For those of you that didn't stick around for the after-party you missed a lot of fun. If nothing else you missed seeing Ranger Wickett dancing and me doing "the worm". Dextra and Hellhound are to be commended for all their hard work and I thank them for their leadership in this regard. Along with the Westin's Poseidon Adventure ending, what more could you want in a convention party? I can hardly wait until next year! Finally getting to meet Diaglo for the first since knowing him for 5 years was a treat! What a gem of a person, I hope that I actually get a chance to hang-out with him next year instead of exchanging small talk and pleasantries as we pass each other. (Same goes for Rel, you rock dude!)

Saturday was the Halfling Musketeer game and I must say Alenda, you did a magnificent job! Kudos to my other pint-sized swashbucklers, Reveal, Fett527, Old One, Matchstick and Rystil Arden. I sorry about the wine but let's face it, the gazebo deserved it! I will gladly pull out my pitons and climb busty wenches with you any day! All I can say is "Don't move, I have you covered!" I then had the pleasure of spending some time talking with Xath and Teflon Billy while waiting for the "The Gamer: Dorkness Rising" to start. Even though Billy left early I enjoyed talking to him while he was there and getting a chance to apologize to Xath once again for not knowing she was a female (See the Paranoia thread for details.). She is a lovely person and I can see why she is everyone's "little sister" Congratulations on your 2nd place showing in the costume contest by the way!

Sunday was a bit of a sad day knowing that it was all ending, but I had one last chance to game with Old One, Rystil A., Rodrigo and Tkmjcw at Belen Umeria's "Forgotten Halls of our Father's" game. I once again died, but had a great time doing so.

And speaking of Belen Umeria and Alenda, thanks a bunch guys! Getting to play with both you in every ENWorld game I played with this year I can say that you are a lovely couple and I wish you all the best!

To all of you that I got a chance to talk to and may have overlooked in this post I apologize. I look forward to seeing each of you again in the future!

I'll agree with Rel. Not just about his egocentricity :) , but about the great group of people that is ENWorld/CM. I didn't play in that many games over the four days, but I did do a lot of meeting and hanging out. It was great to see Queen D, The Universe, Rel, reveal, Teflon Billy, Buttercup, Old One, Alenda, Belen, PirateCat, Dave Stebbins, Hellhound, Dextra, and other folks I had met before at GenCon and the NC game days.

It was great to meet Xath (enjoy the True Dungeon tokens!), kiznit, Psion, Truth Seeker, fett, FickleGM, Sidereal Knight, klaus, Joe and Suzie, KidCthulhu, Queenie, and other people I know I am forgetting.

I will send a special shout out to fusangite and Rodrigo Istalandir. I really enjoyed working the Ennies booth and talking with fusangite on Sunday morning. And it was good to meet Rodrigo in person after playing PbP games with him for a year. I had lots of fun in Old One's game with you and chatting at the airport as we were all waiting for our flight.

Extra special shout out to Chieromancer who is a super nice guy, very funny, and was a great roomate.

Finally, it's always great to see my good friends Cthulhu's Librarian and Ethernaut. I certainly miss hanging out and gaming with you guys on a regular basis.

I was about to say every day should be GenCon, but then when would I sleep?
