Gencon 2009?

I've never been but I'm considering attending. What should I know? How soon should I book? I'll be flying in so I'll need someplace to stay.

Any help is appreciated!

The housing registration opened in February, and most of the connected or close-in hotels are booked. Your best bet now is to register for a badge and get your name on the Housing Bureau's wait list for a close in hotel (many people have gotten good rooms this way in the past), or get a room out near the airport and cab into downtown Indy.

There is plenty of advice to be found on the Gen Con forums:
Forums - Gen Con LLC Community including an area to post "looking for rooms or roommates" threads.

There should be hotels available farther out from the city center. But you'd have to take the bus or a cab to downtown. You might want to get your badge ASAP. Game pre-reg starts in a few weeks. Same some space on your schedule and get some generic tickets. If you're interested in True Dungeon or RPGA games those tend to sell out fast.

There's lots to do. People can spend hours just wandering the dealers room. There's also a 24 hour anime room and nongaming activities at night like a dance.

I agree with the idea to look for a roomate on the GenCon Forums if you want close in at this point.
