Gencon Hotels are on sale at 2pm, and all earlier reservations were WIPED

Thanks, marimacc. I think this is fair, and hope they can contact everyone (they shoudl be able to, as contact info is necessary to make the reservation in the first place).

As fair as it can be in the circumstances???

I left my visa card at home. I left home this morning with a suite and a **binding contract**. I didn't bring my housing number with me either. Why? Because I ALREADY HAD MY ROOM.

Now - because I was keen and RELIED upon my CONFIRMED RESERVATION, by the time I am home to get my visa card and housing code, so I can rebook, it will be 8:00 pm and the rooms will be gone.

This is "fair"?????? The hell it is.

No - that is DETRIMENTAL RELIANCE.

Not happy, At all.

Yeah this is crappy. The deltion i can understand. But delaying this two hours. That sucks, I have a 2 oclock meeting with the president. I'm going to have to be a little late to it now.

Wow, that's a really, really bad decision.

But we do appreciate you keeping people informed - thank you.

I think if you booked ahead of the scheduled opening time, you should have realized you were taking a risk of this happening. I can understand both points of view.

Surprise, surprise - a Gencon screw-up. I think it should be noted that a much better alternative to trolling on the board here would be to MAKE SURE YOU TALK TO PETER AT GENCON. (Not that you were trolling, Cat.)

Most years I have seen him cruising down the halls, and if you stop him, which I have, he'll always engage. TELL him (As I have twice now) how poorly the registration/booking/housing/generic ticket/badge/whatever went for you.

I'm gonna use that Gandalf menacing voice trick on him this time around and see if that scares some response in him, or at least his skivies!

Mods; in the interest of more-warning-is-better, is it worth Sticky-ing this thread for a couple of days, in case their callback mechanism for the wiped reservations has problems too? :uhoh:

And I think you sound like a person who did not reasonably rely upon this and now consider yourself a "winner" as a result of this arbitrary decision.

I expect that if you were somebody who left home with a confirmed reservation - and left all the material at home you need to rebook - which you would NOT have done had this not happened, you'd have a very different point of view buddy.

. This is my family vacation. My eight year old son was grinning at the kitchen table before he left for school this morning.

I am one pissed off customer

I understand - I was almost booked when the shut it down, but I would have understood it even if had worked against me. What would your opinion have been if you hadn't been able to try to book until the scheduled time, and found out all the rooms you wanted had been gone for hours?
