As far as I'm concerned, the best thing they could have done would have been to negotiate an additional 200 rooms from the hotels. Even if it meant paying the difference between the normal and the non-con cost, they could have made the problem go away and kept everybody happy for not too much money.
But it sometimes looks to me customer appreciation is lacking in the gaming industry. With this being but one example of a systemic problem.

NEW UPDATE!!!!!

Ok, I just called the Housing Bureau and a recorded message plays...It informs that the software they use for booking hotels is DOWN and they are currently working to get it back up. So they say to continue trying but they have no idea when it will work again.

I noticed once I finally got back on the site that the continue or "Find Hotel" button was not working. So they canceled my reservation last night when their software was working to let us register now when their software isn't working.

HOT TIP

Use Internet Explorer to connect to the passkey site.

After I switched over to IE, It got stopped halfway through the process about a dozen times, but eventually, I got through. (NOT the same room that I initially booked, but fortunately, my wife called me while I was waiting and said she'd be coming, so get the king...)

great news.

This is the absolute worst experience ever! I'm starting to question whether or not I should cancel my badges!

I've gone through the process twice now, and by the time I get to the "confirm reservation" page and confirm, it's booked, then it takes another 1/2 hour just to find out that there's almost no hotels left for all 4 nights... WTF!??!

I'm getting thoroughly discouraged. My one successful login ended after I clicked for confirmation, and was told that those dates were no longer available.

Now a search for the dates of the con returns:

"No lodging matches your search criteria. Please change your search options and retry"

I'm VERY unhappy here.

I had the same experience, though in each case the room was available when I started, just not by the time I could confirm. I did, eventually, get a room at the Omni.

Perhaps some new system is needed? Or more rooms reserved, if they're gone within an hour? Even at a higher rate, that'd be fine by me. I'd happily have paid $10 or 420 more/night to get the hotels I wanted.

I wonder just how much they're regretting this paragraph in the original (pre-wipe) confirmation emails?

A kind note about calling the hotel "just to be sure":
Please do not call your hotel "to be sure" until after August 8, 2007. Please
understand that processing your reservations from the Housing Bureau into the Hotel
system will take a few days. Rest assured that if you have received a confirmation
number already from the Housing Bureau, the hotel will honor your booking.
Thank
you for your consideration.
