General DCC RPG thread

There are a lot of 3rd party DCC and others that do good work. And I have so much content already for DCC that I don’t need much more. Just very unfortunate that they made the choice.

That's a good point. Even for those who feel uneasy about supporting GG, there is a lot of third-party content.

Once you have the core book needed to play, you can easily find options for expanding your DCC game through other companies.

For example, I recently backed a new funnel made by a third party.

What's a good setting to run DCC in?

Would I be correct in saying that it's got a heavy metal sword and sorcery vibe?

Some D&D settings I haven't run yet are Mystara and Dark Sun. Would it work with any of those?

IIRC Mystara has even more weird stuff in it than Greyhawk does? DCC would work well for that.
Dark Sun would work well, but you might want to use some Mutant Crawl Classics (MCC) or other DCC rules supplements to work in the psionics etc. All the (X)CC stuff works fine together.

I don't think it would be a particularly good fit for most TSR settings. I would get some old Heavy Metal magazines or a copy of Ralph Bakshi's Wizards.

The third party Hubris setting is also widely regarded for DCC.

Yeah, definitely Dark Sun over Mystara. Original Greyhawk would vibe, too.

As far as DCC RPG-specific settings, Lankhmar and Empire of the East are both very cool (though I might recommend using the setting of Empire of the East without the class restrictions). Dying Earth, likewise, but it's a bit more complex to run.

On one of the DCC Facebook Groups, I saw a post about houseruling Dwarves. I quoted the post down below. I, too, would like to reduce how common the ability to see in the dark is. The original poster never followed up to say what they had decided upon for the armor change.

"💡Dwarves: Considering House Rule;
Would Like Feedback 💡

...'Infravision' is something that I feel is too-freely given (much like how D&D gives out Darkvision like candy). I understand that it's part of the old-school Dwarf, but I prefer (as a general thing) for the ability to see in (complete) darkness to be a rarer ability...

...I am considering downgrading 'Infravision' to something more like what D&D 3rd Edition called "low-light vision...

...to make up for the downgrade in vision, I am considering making Dwarves better at using armor... ...my thought is that Dwarves treat armor as 1 step more favorable for determining Armor Check Penalties; Speed Penalties; and Fumble Die...

For example, a Dwarf could wear Scale Mail, while having Check Penalty -3 and no speed penalty.

I'm not sure yet if I want "1 step more favorable to mean" treating armor as whatever the previous armor on the list is or if I want it to mean reducing everything by 1 step.

If the former, that would mean wearing Chainmail, but only suffering negatives/drawbacks as though wearing Scalemail.

If the latter, it would mean reducing all the negatives by 1 step. So, a Dwarf wearing Chainmail would have Check Penalty -4; no speed penalty; Fumble Die d10.

▪︎ TLDR: I'm considering changing Dwarf Infravision to "low-light" vision and giving Dwarves an ability that allows them to ignore some of the penalties for wearing armor..."

I am considering adopting some of these changes for my own game.

I am curious to hear opinions from the community here.

Also, for your own games, are there any common houserules about a race/class that you use?
