Looks like fun. You wouldn't need a fighter level either. A war cleric of Azwan would work, as would Chanet and Gundar. There are plenty of great gods to use, so go for it if it sounds fun to you.

Or you could take Elderich Knight and be a wizard.

A cleric of Chenet, with the Artifice domain - which I've just discovered gives a +4 on Craft checks!!! :lol:

I've just done a quick build, and he has a +14 on craft checks with metal items. Hoody-hoo!

'N :cool:

And the cost of that spellcasting is already included in the crafting costs

No, it actually isn't. You'll have to pay the NPC for the time--since they provide a prereq, it isn't just casting the spell once and leaving either, they have to stay there all eight hours every day of crafting. So it isn't just 10*spell level * caster level by a longshot--there is no specified amount of which I am aware in the SRD, but I tend to have any NPC brought into the crafting process for the whole time demand an equal share of the profit (or what that would come out to be if the crafter is keeping it), possibly negotiable to 60/40 in the main crafter's favour with Diplomacy.

That's about the thing i'm doing with my character Findoram... Check out the PrC proposal Master Crafter which may actually be finalized by the time your new character reaches level 6 :)

Ah, thanks RA. That's why I posted the question here - to get such useful feedback. Well, it looks like I'll have to trawl the DMG to work out which magic items he can create on his own - and then it depends how desperate he is for any others that he can't provide the spells for! :)

Thanks, B4cchus. I'll check it out! :)

You see, PCs are usually a bit cheeper to borrow, and will often help if you help them create an item they want, so it's probably not too bad.

Getting other PCs is definitely a possibility too, and B4cchus's Master Crafter will be a great help once finished, since it lets you mimic prerequisites you do not have at level 5! It would probably be even better for crafters if we could fix (in the euthanise sense) the Augment ability and give back a caster level or something :)

Talk about neutering a class... :uhoh: :confused:

There are lots of great items that clerics can create on their own and more with good domain choices. Heck the big six are all stuff clerics can create:
* Magic weapon
* Magic armor & shield
* Ring of protection
* Cloak of resistance
* Amulet of natural armor (okay maybe not without a druids help on this one)
* Ability-score boosters
