I'm wondering if it would be possible to change my existing character's (Almayce, link in my sig) Cleric levels to Cloistered Cleric levels? It would fit him better thematically and he just gained enough experience for a level (two, actually, but he missed 3,516 xp because he can't gain two levels at once...).

Changes would include:

-6hp (yeah, I know).
-1 bab.
+ lots of skillpoints.
+ additional domain.
+ lore ability.

I don't have a problem with this.

I'm a little hesitant on this because I can point you directly to a situation where Almayce would have been dead if he had been a Cloistered Cleric then (he was at -8 with current HP). And wow...if you actually go through with it, you'll be level 5 with 10 HP (well actually thanks to the level-up you'll be level 6 with 11). It is so totally not my fault if you get burned to death by a Fireball with that kind of HP ;)

And knowing RA, he loves fireball... I've stop to count the number Rinaldo have seen in that adventure, both from friends and foes.

Well half the PCs and all the recent enemies are level 5+ Wizards, so... :]

Well, he already missed an amount of xp comparable to dying once, and he's been trying to get enough money to craft a +2 con item for two levels (puts him at 16hp at 6th level), but Almayce has been losing money steadily instead. Almayce is also probably going to take leadership.

And I can always try to sneak him to lower-level adventures in the future.

I agree. While retconing feats because something similar and new came out, you're asking to retcon something that you did years ago that changes the fundimental core of your character, and as RA said, likely would have gotten you killed at some point. I screwed up most of my character's ability scores, and I can't ask to have that retconned.

I'm with Bront and Rystil here. It's one thing to change a single feat to a closely related feat, such as replacing Skill Focus (Spellcraft) with Academy Graduate. This is a much more substantial change, especially when applied retroactively to a character well into his adventuring career.

Apparently not that much support for that then. I mailed the character judges about a normal approval.

Hi again!

I've been doing some thinking about this dwarven crafter I wanted to create. Since I want to play the character, and there's no real challenge beyond first level in actually crafting (by taking 10 he can already create any masterwork weapon or armor), and since a fighter really needs to move into magical armor as the game progresses, I've been looking at investing in wizard levels. But then, since the prerequisite for Craft Magic Arms & Armor is caster level 5, I'd have to go for character levels 2-6 as a wizard. I want to be able to use the fruits of my labours, so that raises all sorts of questions about arcane spell failure. It really doesn't stack up too well as a playable combination (although fine as an NPC).

Then it suddenly struck me - do away with the ASF and do away with the problem. How to do that? Why, make the character a cleric instead of a mage, that's how! Admittedly the spell selection will be different - but the mechanic we use here already allows for the farming out of aspects of the process to other spellcasters. (Do I need a wizard to cast Mage Armor? No problem! Just pay for the spellcasting and get on with the crafting. And the cost of that spellcasting is already included in the crafting costs, so the whole thing becomes transparent!)

So, anyway, those are my latest thoughts. Would anybody care to comment?
