General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

I'm going to bring up West End Games' Star Wars RPG that was first released in 1987 I think. As hard as it is to believe, WEG was pretty much the only source for new Star Wars material after around 1985. Kenner was no longer producing toys, the Droids/Ewoks cartoon wrapped up in 1986, and there was no expectation that we'd ever see a new Star Wars movie ever. When Timothy Zahn wrote the Thrawn books he was given RPG books from West End Games to use as a reference for the setting.

Yup I own those books as well.

Huge amount has been recycled into Disney cannon and old EU.

I don't think Filoni is a good fit. Favreau not sure about.

Filonis a creative not a corporate type.
Well, OK. If making Favreau head of Lucasfilm means he's more hands-off with the Disney+ shows, then maybe that would be a good thing. But would he even want to do it?

Bill Slavicsec, who wrote a large amount of the WEG RPG (in addition to working on 3e and 4e) wrote a book about its role in the history of the EU.

And this is what people get wrong blaming everything on Kennedy. She's not a creative type. There are few things you can blame on her- but not enough that this is going to have the difference that people are banking on.

... and there's this.

Yup. Rian wrote TLJ and Iger/Shareholders pushed the speed of the ST.

TFA was a bit derivative but nothing was unsalvageable. JJ did his job.

looks like Filoni is Kennedy's likely successor.

Just in case anyone doesn't read these:

The Comic Book Movie (CBM) article is a nothing article merely saying "In The Hollywood Reporter they said...".

Whereas The Hollywood Reporter (THR) (a considerably more reliable publication) says Filoni and Favreau are likely (possibly even together), and just that one source (and they stress that, even they typo'd it as "once") says Filoni is the anointed one.

So what THR is saying is that it's not conclusive, where CBM is acting like it is, and hoping to rely on confirmation bias for people to to forget it if they get it wrong.

So it is far from confirmed, and "likely" in this case might be a slightly higher percentage change, rather than "rush down to the bookies right now!". The source claiming Filoni also claims it'll be confirmed at the Star Wars Celebration in April, so we shall see. It would be an interesting choice because Filoni is far more of a creative and would presumably fill a more Kevin Feige-like role (whereas Kennedy was a bit more distant), or perhaps even like that of James Gunn at the DCU.
