Genre Show Cancellations

Are we talking about TiVo? Worth every penny over the last 6 years. I wouldn't even consider not having one. Using the dual-line HD model right now with DirecTV, myself. Making missing programs basically a thing of the past. There are a few that I can't catch but that's only if they are triple-scheduled...

It's much better than a VCR. Once you use it, you will never consider going back to a VCR.
Only if I'm a 100-plus channel TV viewer. For a guy who have no cable nor satellite, just pure air, I still don't see the need. The only feature I like in DVR is simultaneous recording, as is the case when two favorite shows are on the same time or overlap. That you can't do with one VCR.

I have just the broadcast channels (super-basic cable package) and TiVO is a lifesaver. That show that's on at 3 a.m. on a channel you never look at? TiVO knows that your favorite actor is a guest star on an episode and grabs it for you. It knows when shows are reruns or originals, so it records shows you didn't even know you were going to miss. It even gives you a 30 minute buffer while watching so that you can pause, fast forward through commercials and rewind on live TV.

TiVO, sort of like an iPod, is something that you don't think you need until you've already got one, and then you can't see how you can live without it.

I've got the 100 hour DVR that comes with my satellite plan, and the way I use it mostly is to time shift months of programming until I can find a better time for watching shows than during the week or I'm out of town. I still haven't watched most of the Dr Who American rebroadcasts or the BSG season 2 part finale. It's probably the only way I'd get to watch something like Smallville at all, and once football season gets here it's worth its weight in gold. G-O-L-D I tell you...

I was severely disappointed that the last Olympics wasn't broken up into DVR-able segments. I get miffed when networks schedule opposing shows now that there's no way for my DVR to handle recording it in any arcane broadcast/rebroadcast plan (networks like the Sci Fi channel and USA often rebroadcast their shows at 2AM and such, which allows a lot of flexibility in programming)

Yeah, that's why I'm resisting the urge to buy iPod. :]

But it is tempting since they offer download cards (available in many places like my local 7-Eleven) without the need to input a credit card number on them iTunes. Not even Microsoft -- maker of Media Player 10 -- would consider offering such a service for MP3 downloads.

I love my DVR. It let me watch the last 4 eps of Invasion today. A shame it got cancelled, it was getting good. It was produced by WB for ABC, I wonder if it could find new life on the CW?

So far, no official last-minute announcement from the CW folk, who have recently decided to revive 7th Heaven despite the airing of the series finale episide a few weeks back.
