Hey, maybe she was just nervous. I mean, I seriously would. I sometimes have trouble speaking when I know exactly what I'm talking about. I have no idea why 1/5th of Americans can't locate the US on a map. I would say that they're either ignorant or just plain dumb, but I don't know who I'd be able to say that delicately.

Why Iraq and Africa was spoken about, I have no freaking clue. I feel a little sorry for her though. I bet she's hearing heck about it at home.

Why very few beauty pagent winners go on to careers in politics. :)

Yeah, you have to take these "studies" with a grain of salt. I remember seeing one which claimed that 30 million Americans were illiterate. Turns out that this number included non-English speakers and people whose eyesight was so poor they couldn't take the test. So people for whom English is a 2nd language (or don't even speak it) and the legally blind do poorly on written exams? I'm shocked!

There was also one that claimed that 1/10 of people in England thought that Conan the Barbarian was a real person and Hitler was a fictional character. I can't imagine 1 out of every 10 people in England not knowing who Hitler was. :\

I read a response from her shortly after the whole thing happened and she said that she was very nervous and had problems hearing the question so I guess she just... rambled on. My wife showed me a video of it later and I was very confused. :p

Ah well she still took 3rd place so I guess she made a ton of points in the other catagories lol? :D

Aw, she's cute! Who cares if she lacks some basic communication skills. ;)

I almost choked to death on my pepsi when she said that many US Americans (what an odd turn of phrase) don't have maps! If I don't have a map, how can I point out the location of the US on it? Seems logical . . .

1/5 of Americans are in the lowest fifth by intelligence. If I recall the statistics accurately, that's well below an 80 IQ, in the territory where learning to read is difficult. Try teaching people to read a map who struggle even to read the words that are printed on it.

Reminds me of a study which conclusively showed black people were less intelligent than White people. The study used an IQ test, did pick white people from Harvard, and black people from African tribes...*slightly* biased there.

Ouch. Thank goodness she's pretty so she probably won't starve to death (at least not on purpose anyway).

Maybe she needs some feeding? :heh:

I got the impression she was caught unprepared for the question. She had something in mind, probably a current event topic, and was prepared to answer that line of questioning. That is probably how the Iraq and South Africa entered into it as she wasn't prepared, got nervous, and tried to work something she had prepped into the answer.
