Get dressed already! (does your mage wear robes?)

Given the dearth of people playing robe-wearing, pointy-hat-coiffed wizards, I'm tempted to play one next time around!

The dwarf wizard I played this weekend in a one-shot was balding, but had a beard, a ponytail, and short robes. Seeing as how he spent most of the game in other forms, it didn't matter much what he wore. :)

I don't think any wizard I've played or ran as the DM has ever worn robes. I'm not sure why wizards would dress any differently than other people of similar social status. And if the DM says that normally wizards do wear robes (and no one else does), then my wizard certainly wouldn't, any more than he'd carry around a sign that says "look, I'm a wizard".

My alienist prefers to go naked in 'enlightened' areas that aren't freaked out by her huge rolls of rippling fat, tentacled breasts and the waving tendrils of her lower parts.

Most 'backwards' places, she wears the local clothes. But a little resentfully.

I am so going to have nightmares, now. Thanks.

My wizards tend to wear explorer outfits or local clothes. Most are Wizard-Rogues and wish to blend in. When incognito they tend to wear armor. Gives a failure chance but anyone looking for a wizard simply overlooks them.

Both arcane tricksters look roguish.

The fatespinner went to traditional robe and pointy hat because we found some magical equipment he liked. Before that it was explorer/street clothes.

Dude. Nations have gone to war for less than this post.

Next wizard I make I'm gonna wear +1 glamered robes that look like full plate armor. Hey, if you can do the opposite, you can probably do this too. It would certainly confuse the opposition, and it retains the robe's arcane failure... :D

I remember people saying that in the S&S game world, wizards wore as little as possible to better release waste heat - and that, from the artwork, this only seemed to apply to the women. Is this still true?

I've got a halfling necromancer I want to play, who will only wear robes when at 'home' doing research. Travel and adventuring requires an Explorer's Outfit.

Similarly, the half-elf sorcerer (or psion) normally wears commoner's clothing or an EO when out and about.
