Getting a private forum?

Can anyone suggest a good way to get a private forum for a campaign? I'm running a drop game and it would be super handy.

It's not hard to setup your own forum, so I'd suggest getting some reasonably cheap webspace with MySQL and PHP support and then get some forum software running (i.e. phpbb or SMF).

Some webspace providers even offer forum installers (usually phpbb), which makes things even easier.

If you don't want to pay for webspace, there is also something like razyboard, but it's not that great IMHO.

Go with a wiki site. They are easy for everyone - even the not-so-savvy computer players.

I'd suggest Wikispaces.com since it's free and has a nice visual text editor instead of HTML. For a look at my campaign: correl.wikispaces.com

You can run discussions on specific pages and send inter-group email. There are templates that you can set up to make adding new material a breeze. I add images, embedded video, and learned how to stream RSS stuff from the Wizards boards too.

The hosting company I use costs me $70 a year for everything, more space than I can use, and one-click installation of phpBB. You can get cheaper - If you don't mind the ads, EZBoards is still around, and would be a viable free option (you can pay and ditch the ads).

It's not a forum, exactly, but we use Yahoo Groups for our gaming. We've got a place to post stuff, some file space, even a calender that we never use. It's free too!

I've been using Invision for my forum and have had no real problems with it at all. It may not have all the bells & whistles of ENWorld, but it has more than I need just for the campaign.

I imagine if you want it to store images and such that it might not be ideal. I happen to have webspace on a couple of my email addresses that more than fill those storage needs, though.

There are a bunch of free forums out there.

Or just find a host for it. I spent less than 100 for my site for 2 years to get full hosting and mysql databases. I've actualy got 5-6 different forums on it right now, hosting a few private ones for people who ask nicely (And usually throw a bit of scratch my way)
