Ghostwalkers Anonymous

Cheiromancer

I'm putting together a stable of characters to play, and I've just made a Ghostwalker. Now, ghostwalkers have something called anonymity- they have certain powers that are negated or reduced if enemies who know their name are nearby.

So how do I keep my character's name secret? Do I just not tell the DM?

If I'm DMing a campaign and there is a ghostwalker PC in it, how do I handle the villains finding out what the guy's name is?

Will commune do it? Legend Lore?

Please help

Let your DM know that the name you gave him and announced to the rest of the players was an alias, and just don't tell anyone, aside from the DM, your real name.

You tell the DM, because the DM knows everything about the world. You needn't tell the other players though, since it's not information their characters would have.

First, the baddies need to realize that knowing the ghostwalker's true name is important. If the PrC is uncommon in your campaign, this might be the hardest part. ;)

Even when they know to look for the name, most divinations are unlikely to help. Commune won't work, because it only answers yes/no questions. Ditto for Contact Other Plane (though that's arguable, since it can give other one-word answers). Legend Lore is probably out too, because it finds only legends, which aren't likely to include the character's real name.

I think the best way would be to get the name from the character himself. A quick dominate person would make it easy.
