Giant Size

Bad Paper

First Post
Giant Size (Complete Arcane) didn't make it into the Spell Compendium. Does this mean that it's problematic somehow? Like, the SC only compiles "worthy" spells from the earlier books? I'm going to allow one of my players access to it (via miracle), but I'm wondering if there's something of which to beware. (other than 72' tall clerics, I mean)

Wasn't Giant-Size a Wu Jin only spell? So, it might have been dropped if they were only gathering spells usable by core classes.

Nah, probably means that they didn't have room for it.

oh! I did not realize that the Spell Compendium was essentially core only. Thanks for that tip.

One more set of questions: say the caster turns Colossal. The chart says that he becomes 72' tall, but that his space is 30'. What the heck? Am I to assume he is crouched or something? Or is his space 30' wide, 30' deep, and 75' tall?

What if he casts this in a 70' tall chamber? 50' tall? 30' tall? 20' tall?

Gnolls are 7 1/2 feet tall in a 5 foot space.

Frost Giants are 15 feet tall in a 10 foot space.

Cloud Giants are 21 feet tall in a 15 foot space; Titans are 25.

Space doesn't appear to set a firm limit on height.

As far as I know, the rules term "space" has never, not in 3.0 nor 3.5, included height as part of it. Whether you're 72' tall or not does not change how much horizontal space you need to fight, which is what "space" refers to in the rules. And since 3.5 abstracted spaces even more, you can probably assume that even a crouching 72' tall character (probably 30' or 40' tall when crouching) will still have a fighting space of 30 feet wide by 30 feet long.

Colossal dragons are 100+ feet long in a 30 foot space.

I gues the underlying question should be posed:

Do you feel that it is too much of a boon for a miracle? Even with partial XP? Even with full XP?

I don't feel it requires full XP. Partial XP if you need to retain control vs craftily overpowered characters, no XP vs. a non-optimized-for-melee cleric.

Definitely no XP. ;)

For one minute of my character's life I just want to be a 72 foot tall quarterstaff-wielding orc cleric of Fharlanghn. Can you blame me?
