Giants of Legend or Deathknell?

I've decided to really take the plunge on minis and order a case later today (before I leave work in four hours, actually). I'll be ordering either a case of Giants of Legend or of Deathknell. I think both sets look really, really great, but I wanted some imput from people who currently own them.

I'm not going to be playing the Minis game (well, any play will be incidental). This purchase is motivated by the desire to have minis for my 3.5 games. Looking at the sets, both look useful for that, but the best I can do is guess. So, I thought I'd draw upon the compounded experience of ENWorld.

Which one is a better mix, overall, for normal D&D game?

GoL might be your better bet as you get a range of mini sizes. Ordering an entire case of them might even assure you of a huge sized rare too, but be prepared to get 4 fiendish tyrannosaurs.

Deathknell, while it is another cool set, wouldn't seem to have the cross section needed to get a case worth.

I'd order Deathknell. The distribution on the rares was finally worked out. In one case you'll get 12 different rares and you should end up with at least 1 each of all the commons & uncommons.

With GoL, you'll probably end up with 1 rare huge (but no guarantees) and a few dupes of the t-rex or the cloud giant.

GoL is my favorite set by far.

DeathKnell is decent, but GoL has the Huges, which are very, very cool. :)

An untampered case of GoL will get you 3 huge rares and 1 or 2 of each of the uncommon huges. Duplicate rares are uncommon and there are good odds you'll get 12 different normal rares (duplicates are possible). 2-4 of each common (usually 3) and 1 or 2 of each normal uncommon.

I'd go with the GoL if you don't have any others.

One warning about the Huge Miniatures: They do not travel well. If I had to lug a case with 10 or 15 huge minis in it, I'd have to use a roll-cart to haul it around.

The Deathknell's a nice set, but it depends on how many minis you have now: Giants to me has a better "basic range" of critters.

Not in my experience. I bought two cases, one had 1 rare huge out of 12 boxes, the other had two rare huges out of 12 boxes. And I'm not the only one who had poor distribution with GoL.

Actually I got a lot of repeats in GoL, out of about 12 boxes I had 4 Treants adn 2 Behir. But then I also got Modenkinen.

I have had better luck with variety in Dethknell.

I always host. Not currently an issue, but so noted.

1 Aberrations starter, 1 Aberrations booster, 1 GoL (got a bulette). Purchased an additional Elven Bladesinger (my wife's PC) and a Cloud Giant ('cause I liked it and it was cheap).

The thing pushing me toward GoL is that I like the rares from it more than Deathknell and I could always buy the Deathknell commons individually for cheap. I'm only interested in about 8 or 9 rares from Deathknell vs. about a dozen from GoL. If the distribution sucks for GoL, though, it might not be worth it.
