Sounds like you handled that masterfully. Gave options, nudged them a little (telling of a "favorite") but still gave the choice, and you're holding back the surprise "every level" thing reveal until later. Nice work!
Did this apply just to the Sorcerer PC, or to everyone? I was under the impression in your OP that this was to highlight one player. If multiple PCs, are you assigning different flaws to each of them?
Thanks! It was actually applying to 2 PCs that were on the brink of dying. I only mentioned the sorcerer for simplicities sake. The rest of the group was far enough away that it would have taken them 4 or so rounds to reach the other 2 PCs and the fiend didn't have a beef with them at that moment. I gave them each a different flaw so that I could make sure it stung a bit, but not too much. The next flaw will sting more.
The reason I thought of the idea was because the players running these 2 PCs happen to be brand new players in our group. I didn't want to kill them off on their 3rd session (unless it couldn't be helped), so I was trying to figure out a way to throw them a bone. I think this gave a much more positive impact than just killing them off.
