Gnome's 'Reactive Stealth' feature Q?

Hi All,

An easy one. The gnome Fade Away racial feature allows him to make a Stealth check "If you have any cover or concealment..."

We have read this to over ride the total cover/concealment rule for a normal stealth check. Is this the correct interpretation?

That is how I interpret it too. It is really nice for gnome warlocks if they manage to shadow walk right before rolling for initiative.

It also makes entering hidden status into a free action. This doesn't make much of a difference if the players are in ambush mode, but it means that a gnome that is at the trail end of the party almost always gets a chance to start hidden even when in a straight-up encounter.

This is only at the start of each encounter, and allies don't count as cover for stealth.

You may also not get a massive stealth check result.

But it's nice, yes.
