Goblin god: Maglubiyet

didn't see a reference in On Hallowed Ground, but i did find this tidbit in that Dragon issue:

"Rumor has it that it was the enmity of one of the Lords that forced the orcish pantheon to flee to Acheron and points beyond. Now, that may or may not be true-but if it is, the Lords have got to be even mightier than previously believed."

rumor, aye, but it's enough to state it. :)

hmm, ok, so the 1E MotP also places the orc and goblin gods in Acheron. weird, how Monster Mythology was written later, yet still held to the 1E DDG idea of Maglubiyet in the Nine Hells...

If it's mentioned at all in On Hallowed Ground it would have been in the section dedicated to god-like entities under the Lords of the Nine.

I think it may be somewhere else... possibly Faces of Evil: The Fiends but it's been so long that I've thought about it that I don't remember.

Oh, and if he's rearing back, he still looks really silly and somewhat "retarded."

yeah, it's too cartoony of an illustration to look really scary. ;)

i'll re-look at OHG if i get a chance tonight. as for faces of evil, i have it but i don't know where it is.

ok, gave it some thought, and here's as good a place to start as any. most deities in DDG seem to have about 20 character levels, some more some less, and regardless of divine rank. so, looking at the levels he had in 1E and 2E, i came up with this idea:

Fighter 16, Cleric 12, Rogue 6, Illusionist 6

those first two classes are as he was in 2E, while the rest hearken back to 1E. i replaced his 10th-level assassin with a 6th level rogue, as it doesn't seem that the DDG gods have any prestige classes.

also, 1E DDG lists him with psionic powers - should we just drop this in favor of spell-likes? most of the 1E gods had psionics, which were subsequently dropped in 2E.

and for ability score, i averaged his 1E stats, added 10 to each one, and came up with this:

Str 30, Dex 29, Con 30, Int 27, Wis 26, Cha 29

that almost puts him roughly on par with his closest contemporaries in DDG, Gruumsh and Kurtulmak. if we add 10 points somewhere in there, it should even him out. :)

Boz: For the domains, I prefer war over destruction, as destruction is something that more fits Chaotic deites. As for the ten points, put some of them in Dex, as he seems like the sneaky sort. Drop the psionics, but give him enough spell-likes to make them matter, remember he gets all the domain spells he grants as spell-like abilities. And for the lords of the nine, I bet it was the animosity of Asmodeus that drove the orc and goblin pantheons from the Nine Hells, cause he seems to be a lot more powerful than he lets on... :D

Later,

I think Krishnath's suggestions are on point.

If you'd like, I could re-post my Asmodeus that shows him as a power to be reckoned with...

Serge: Your stats for Asmodeus have nothing to do with it. Even in the Manual of the Planes, there is hinting of Asmodeus'es great power. I mean, how many non-deific creatures have the power to sunjugate an entire outer plane? And if we go to my campaing, Asmodeus was one of the original host that fell from the havens (Actually only the second most powerfull, but he still rules the Nine hells, but that's because the other guy tired of it all, and built a tavern in the outlands, you might have heard of him, he's called Morningstar, yes, *that* morningstar...). But that is in my campaing, and so far the Pc's still haven't left the prime material... damn...

Boz: I'll look through the doc and get back to you.

ok, let's see if i got this right. correct my math, please, if i got it wrong, and notify me of anything i forgot or mixed up.

Skills points:
Maglubiyet would get 320 (20-HD outsider) + 160 (Ftr 16) + 120 (Clr 12) + 96 (Rog 6) + 60 (Ill 6) = 756 total skill points.

Feats:
Maglubiyet would have 5 (20-HD outsider) +7 (20 character levels) + ? (20 epic levels) +9 (Ftr bonus feats) + scribe scroll and 1 bonus metamagic feat (Illusionist bonus).

Attack bonus:
With his battleaxe, Maglubiyet would have an attack bonus of +20 (20-HD outsider) +16 (divine bonus) -1 (size) +4 (magic axe) +11 (Strength) +16 (Fighter) +9 (Cleric) +4 (Rogue) +3 (Illusionist), for a total attack bonus of +82.
