Ok, maybe not quite a Goblin Mob Squad, at least not in the mafioso style. Anyways, I don't know if any of you remember, but in 2nd edition of dnd, there was an adventure book "The Axe of the Dwarvish Lords" or something simliar to it. (The book cover had a strangle looking dwarf with a maniacal grin on the front with a black beard wielding an axe that had a volcano spouting as the back part of the blade). If you do remember, in there was details about a goblin mob squad, for those of you who have no clue what I'm talking about, this is what it was.
The goblin mob squad was a group of goblins (6-12 in each) that would charge toward a PC helter skelter with one goal in mind, to tackle the PC or attempt to steal items off the character (rings, jewelry, weapons, the what have you) and then run off. Once they completed that, the goblins standing behind the squad would attack.
The question I have is, since obviously the design of the goblin mob squad was made for 2nd edition, how would it work in 3rd edition? Would it just be numerous strength checks? And how would I deal with that many things in the same 5 ft square as the PC? I think this is a really good tactic and would love to use it sometime just to show that goblins aren't weaklings (well..they are...but, i hope you know what i mean)
I suppose the answer would seem obvious such as just multiple strength checks, but I'm not sure if there's any rules that I would be breaking or bending or anything special I should add.
Any input on this would be useful.
