GOD RULES: Player's Guide (5e) Previews/Discussion

(IIRC) Both, the stat blocks are harder for me as they are smaller than the headings. I think the issue for my eyes is that it is not a solid color behind the text. The "reflection" effect acts a bit like zebra stripes and obfuscates the text to my old eyes.

Sorry to hear that buddy. I hadn't considered anyone having worse eyesight than myself (still no word on my operations - if you can believe it) having problems with the gold bars since I personally don't myself - and my eyesight is currently terrible.

Is anyone else having a problem with the legibility of the Headers or Table Text?

To be clear, it is not my eyesight per se (the text is in focus), it is the distracting nature of the color "wave." It is how my mind process the pattern, not my eyes really.

Been meaning to ask, what do people think about the layout/design of the pages themselves? Legible enough?

I'm not a massive fan of 'fancy' page borders though initially I was planning a unique (as in different for each double page spread) gold edge to each page.
These are wonderful! Really looking forward to picking this up once it hits DriveThruRPG (not in a position to back the Kickstarter at the moment).

For the record I have no issue with text readability here.

My apologies amigo. I'm hoping it's something that will only trouble your pdf viewing and not the printed book itself.

These are wonderful!

Glad you like them Micah. I only wish I could have fit the flavour and lore text into the Purview Boons, but just not enough room. Having to cut corners to keep the pages from overflowing.

No worries amigo, I appreciate the continued interest.

I am still around

I appreciate it buddy.

Excited to see progress and previews

Not totally sure what the next preview will be.

Right now I am working on moving some of the Boons (from Chapter 6) into Chapter 5 as part of my "Grand Purviews" for the "Lords of Light" (a sort of catch-all for Higher Dimensional Beings).

Previously I had my Fate-Manipulation Boons and Reality-Manipulation Boons (among lots of other types of Manipulation) in the Boons Chapter but I think these may work better within their own Purview. However, I separated them from Godly Purviews such as Gods of War, into "Lords of Eternity" (a fancy way of saying Gods of Time really).

So I am effectively creating 8 new Purviews. Fortunately all the Divine Boons are already finished for these Grand Purviews so I just have to come up with the rest of the text...and ultimately the art.

So far I have not added the 'big gold quotes' and with a slight reduction in text (in both the write-up and table - notably the removal of the worshiper stuff - though I added a few new things to that table: Exposure (to), Hazards, Portents etc.) I can get the actual Purview into the first page. Which may free up enough space to add the lore section to each Boon on Page 2.

I'll take my time Contemplating whether that is a better approach for the 25* (now) regular Purviews.

*As I added a Music Purview to give Bards some love:

Final Purview List: Gods of Archery, Chaos, Craft, Death, Dragons, Evil, Fire, Fortune, Law, Love, Magic, the Moon, Mountains, Music, Nature, Protection, the Sea, the Sky, Strength, the Sun, Travel, Trickery, War, Winter and Wisdom.

No 'Gods of Good' Purview...just use the Sun Purview.

Plus 4 Petit Purviews...including the God of Beers

Plus 8 Grand Purviews...including the Lords of Eternity

Right I need to get to the supermarket and then get straight back to work...these Grand Purviews won't write themselves.

Slightly bad news update, I have realized I will have to restructure all the Boons in Chapter 6 by Category rather than by Tier - it was just becoming a logistical nightmare to sort out.

So instead of having Boons on (for example) Regeneration spread across the 10 different Tiers of Boons; instead Regeneration (Boons) will simply have their own 2-page spread. This will require a good bit of restructuring and rewriting but I believe it needs reworked otherwise its just too complicated navigating the Powers chapter in the conventional method of an alphabetical listing of Boons split by tier.

This will almost certainly impact the schedule by a few weeks (as there are 55 categories of Boons) - but I will still have a PDF release in December, However, it will probably be missing a Chapter until a final release in January. Apologies for the inconvenience. I'll have more details in the next Kickstarter Update coming on Thursday.

Quick update as to what is happening with God Rules: Player's Guide.

Currently I am working on finishing Chapter 6 which a few months ago was planned to be 50 pages but is now 140 pages. That unforeseen expansion and the logistical problems (now solved) of trying to arrange all the Epic and Divine Boons by Tiers (10 tiers in total) have caused this brief delay. Chapter 6 should have been finished by the end of September but these issues have set me back around 2 months.

The current Plan going forward is:
1. December release a 420 page Six chapter version of the book about a week before Christmas (so Backers have something in December and I can gauge feedback).
2. January release a 480 page Seven chapter version of the book...to me this will be the Physical version of the book.
3. March release Chapter 8 (Artifacts) content (approx. 80-90 pages) free to Backers.

Personally I don't want the Physical release to be something beyond 500 pages. Its just too unwieldy a physical object. Obviously the size does not impact the pdf though.

Any thoughts on this? Is the above the best course of action?
