Gonna interrupt the age old question of Optimus vs. He-Man and jump back to the Big G debate for a moment.
I'm a huge kaiju fan too, but probably less educated on the matter. However, I think that the Giant Monsters All-Out Attack Godzilla's rebirth story was changed in America. In the original story, and in the subtitled version I have on my DVD (I thought I had the mass-market version), Godzilla is the manifestation of angry spirits from WWII. The spirits are the Japanese soldiers who died in WWII and want to get revenge on Japan for not honoring them, the spirits of Amercian soldiers who just want to get revenge on Japan, and of course, Godzilla's angry spirit who also spites Japan.
Godzilla was esentially undead in that movie, and unlike most other movies, where he stomps stuff that just gets in his way or annoys him, he deliberately goes out of his way to kill the fleeing Japanese. I have not watched the movie in a while, but I think that this was shown in there.
Oh yeah, and Ghidorah was actually a good guy one other time - when he became King Mecha-Ghidorah.
Oh yeah, my votes are:
Godzilla vs. Dragon Gods = Godzilla, but some kind of tie is possible
Optimus vs. He-man = He-man (but I like Optimus better), until they join forces with G.I.Joe to defeat the combined might of Skeletor, the Decepticons, and Cobra.
Hulk vs. Sauron = Can Sauron be defeated without destrying the ring? If so - Hulk.
Donald vs. Mickey = Donald, if he has a knife.
freebfrost said:The outstanding one from the latest mythology cycle was Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, which again was a direct sequel to the 1954 series (but had a Godzilla that was the incarnation of drowned sailors (huh?) and was "evil" while Mothra, Anguilus, and King Ghidorah are considered "good" Japanese gods - a big change of pace for The King - and the only time he has been one of the good guys.).
