Going digital with Maptools and 4e

And those nice little pictures that I have in the folders with all the items in maptool, how do I use those? I can't find them ANYWHERE as images on my PC and they came with maptool when I downloaded it. What sort of images are those little icons anyway? That may help me find them.

This is what I mean

Those status icons are meant to be used on a token. If you right click the token, look at the menu and you'll see Status. Go there and the drop down menues will show various 4e status effects. Click on the appropriate one and it will appear on your token. They are not meant to be placed on the map directly.

I'm not familiar with the framework you are using, but, that's how it works in my framework. I believe you can also access these status markers through the character sheet as well.

Where the images end up depend on your OS. I'm using Vista, and for me they wound up here (replace UserName with the name of your user):

C:\Users\UserName\.maptool\resource

*sigh*

I've already had this answer when asking this question. There is no file named resource. I looked, so I have no idea where those images are. And I use XP where I have it installed on a long chain of directories in My Documents.

I found it by searching for some of the directories I could see in the MapTool tree. Make sure your search is including hidden files and folders. I think at least one folder in the chain is hidden, which keeps the files from being found by normal searches.

Do you have a .maptool folder under C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName? If you're not sure what your username is, look under all of the folders under C:\Documents and Settings until you find a .maptool folder (or you run out of folders).

By the way, the location of these folders has nothing to do with where you installed MapTool. It always goes somewhere related to your user account.

3 weeks later, and we've added the IRpen and Wiimote hack. Giving the players the ability to move their tokens really allowed them to feel more involved.
Works great, except for the guys with short arms.
I'm going to have to buckle down and build the table soon so I can get really crazy and start looking at moving to a touch display.

After a few more sessions, we ended up getting a better projector and using the wall. It allows for a much bigger map and more room on the table.

With that, we lost the IR pen, but moved to a wireless mouse. So the players can still control their characters.

So far, the response has been awesome from my players.

This is cool! I think when I get my own game room set up, I'll mount a projector in the ceiling to project down or I may just splurge and come up with my own interactive flat surface computing table that you can build on your own.

I looked at building a touch table and after putting the map on the wall, am probably going to stick with that. You can get so much more size on the wall and have so much more available space on the table.
