Gold Weapons (Part II)

I recently bought a great skeleton miniature that has a gold sword. I really want to use it, that's why I am asking all these questions.

If a gold long sword is made from the Magic of Faerun book it costs 7,000+gp. It bumbs the damage up from 1d8 to 2d6 becsuase it is heavier. It also requires a Exotic Wepon Feat to use it.

I am pretty sure about all of the above. Here are my questions: does the weapon get masterwork status? Is it +1 to hit? Do you need to spend an extra 300gp to make it masterwork? Is the weapon designed specifically to NOT grant the +1 to hit? If so why?

Thanks.

Yeah. I have never really agreed with that. Someone could easily take a slag of mithril (or adamantite), beat into a sword-like shape and it would still be lightweight, but I doubt that it would be considered MW :p

I'm kinda seeing the opposite. The material is so special and difficult that the only way to use it is to treat as though you were making a MW item ... or that the material demands no less (as in it's just not possible to make crappy equipment from it)

I *REALLY* just do not agree with that.

I agree with your conclusion, if not your argument.

If you're going to make something out of expensive materials, why *wouldn't* you make it masterwork? Thus, the cost for masterwork is subsumed in the material cost. If you were willing to lose the benefit of masterwork, I'd charge 150/300 less - but it couldn't be enchanted.

bah!

you're both killin' me here! :)

okay, so my imagination is lacking sometimes ... (I blame that on my taking of Calc in HS ... many years ago)

hmm,

I don't like the 'why wouldn't you' approach ...

maybe the process in creating items from special materials is so exacting and precise that they always come out (when successful) MW ... if you fail you might come out with a modified club or slab of useless material.

heck, increase the DC by 5 (DC 25) ... to represent the near perfection required when using such materials. (although there is no extra time vs MW ... both use the 150/300gp for creation time (1,500/3,000sp))

I agree with Wolf.

We have come up with an OUTSTANDING system in the above link.

Damn, we're smart.

Of course, some of the materials cost so much what's the big deal about an xtra 300?

Anyone who says, essentially, "If the material's expensive, why wouldn't you make it high quality?" obviously hasn't ever taken their wife shopping for jewelry. :^)
