Goliath Greatweapon Prowess

GGWP is an okay feat, but since it can't stack with Superior Weapons, you're better off taking a Superior weapon if you're doing 2 or more [w]s. Which is most encounter and Daily attacks (so most rounds of combat in Paragon), and everything you do in Epic.

Runepriests and Seekers can use it pretty well, though, as even their encounters and Dailies are 1[w] plus a bunch of other stuff (more damage for the seeker, rider effects for either).

MRT: indeed. This is why most of our trivial argument about it involve Implement (or rather, Weaplient) users rather than Weapon users.

... and don't have a good use for the feat you save :)

It depends a bit on your weapon of choice, but if we're talking using a maul + GWP, and spending the extra feat on, say, hammer rhythm, instead of a mordenkrad without, then that's probably a good decision through paragon. Even at epic, it might still be worth it if you just have a long enough list of important feats that dealing 1 less damage per attack is worth it.

You're probably better off with the fullblade at paragon+, though, since it's got better crits (2d12 or 3d12 more) to go with its increased damage, which widens the gap a little more. Though, hey, there's a lot of good feats now.

Maul=GGWP
or
Mordenkrad=Proficiency

Where's the feat saved?

Personally, I have GGWP, but that's partly because I really hate rerolling dice, so the mordenkrad's brutalness would just annoy me.

That, and I actually tend to go with quite low [w] number attacks, for the effects thereof.

It's not Mordenkrad = Prof. It's Mordenkrad Prof + Weapon Focus.

Unless you're talking about skipping weapon focus, in which case it's near universally a bad idea.

P.S. I agree with you on hating brutal :)

Yeah, if I had a few d5s I'd be okay with the mord, but I don't.

Yes, there is. It's literally:

Maul + GWP (1 feat)
or
Mordenkrad + Superior Weapon Prof + Weapon Focus (2 feats)

GWP is an improved version of weapon focus. In the hands of certain classes, like the cleric, it's also some weapon proficiency.

GWP is also great with glaives, that don't have a superior counterpart.

Yeah, realised they were both feat bonuses after I posted that, and edited.

It can still be better to go Mord if you've got very high [w] attacks, but it does kinda suck for your at-will attacks.

Yeah, I'm playing a goliath barbarian 16 now who is probably just under 2W average. And I'm doing GWP + Maul, cause I like the feats I have. I could afford to drop one - like I just picked up Rattling on my charges and battle awareness, which I like conceptually but isn't that strong... I'm just waiting for it to make an attack on a friend miss though :)

Well, that and I don't like brutal. I do think the DM would let me roll 2d6+1 per W normally, with 12 still being my critical max.

I'm saying that without having Weapon Focus involved, GGWP is better than SWP for 1[w], but equal to or worse than SWP on 2 or higher [w]s (3 in Paragon, 4 in Epic). When you add Weapon Focus in, Weapon Focus + SWP is always superior to GGWP (at a bit higher opportunity cost).
