...except Drizzt lost his powers when he came to the surface (And, by extension, so should all drow after a while, though there are no rules for this)...

:D

1) Assuming they are playing him that way.

2) Dungeon crawls tend to take place underground.

3) That never stopped a munchkin before, why would it now?

OK so you mamby pamby babies wanna get all the drow goodies w/o the inante drow nastiness of being align w/ a demon, sure, take away anything that a basic grey elf would have and maybe give them a bit better infravison, The rest my dear Chuckies is by demonic gift. Really folks, all that meat and no potatos. Get real

BTW Drow originally came from the Queen of the Spider Pits modules from Blue book addition D&D, get yer facts straight here folks.

Can't have the bennies w/o the bad stuff that comes w/, that's how games lose balance.

Stand up and take yer medicine!!

Just out of interest, how are good drow supposed to survive long enough to exile themselves from their people? This is, after all, a world where Know Alignment spells (or equivalent) are ten-a-penny.

Are the Drow terminally stupid? Or does Lloth just revel in the evilness of not knowing whether her evil worshippers are truly evil??

Welcome aboard, Bookwyrm.

Not too difficult in a magical world. There can be others living in the city, watching for others that show the tendencies toward Good. When they spot someone, they give them a ring or amulet that hides their alignment.

Oh, you've got to be Honging here. Please don't tell me you're actually offering this as a true statement.

I'm not suggesting some random spellcaster going round examining people, I'm suggesting that it would be a tool of social control. This means that everyone would be tested on a regular basis, from a very early age (want to make sure they're growing up right, dontcha!;). And, by extension, you would remove all magical items/enchantments to make sure this 'loyalty test' was accurate.

Undetectable alignment is a 2nd level spell. So is misdirection. I would think that a resistance movement would have some kind of way to survive. Especially if it had some aid from a deity.

And Dispel Magic is 3rd level...besides, it should be easy enough to research a counterspell to any specific cloaking enchantment.

And aid from a deity isn't going to mean squat if they drag you into a temple of Lloth to perform the test.

In the end, the evil Drow win, since they only have to be lucky once in order to catch you, whereas you have to be lucky all the time.

Of course, on the other hand, the drow might be a bit reluctant to go waving around a detect alignment type spell... remember, in many drow mythos (Including, I believe, the FR/Salvatorian one), the drow believe they are the persecuted race, and the surface elves are evil.

Seriously?!?!?

If that were true, don't you think they might pause for a moment before sacrificing yet another baby to a demonic spider-god?
