Good movies lately..

We seem to be in a spate of good gamer movies.

Sin City of course, though I haven't seen it yet.

Kung Fu Hustle is hilarious. I'd never seen anyone use monkspeed to hide under the covers before. And for the love of god don't pick a fight in Pig Sty Alley. Oh. And apparently bards have some really lethal prestige classes.

Howls moving castle. Wow. Just wow. Of course most of you will have to wait till june to see it. :p :D

Steamboy of course is coming soon.

Any others good for gaming inspiration?

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy movie comes out tomorrow

-so long and thanks for all the fish!

Today's a Thursday, isn't it? I never could get the hang of Thursdays...

I'm of the opinion that:
a) The H2G2 movie will not be good*
b) It won't be that much use to RPG players.

I'm one of the biggest fans of the books, but I can't see how you can use the books/radio show/movie as big RPG inspirations. The only exception I can think of is lifting personalities from 'em (I once patterned a familiar after Marvin, and "Return to the Keep on the Borderlands" has a Zaphod-like bard).

The next Star Wars movie is also soon arriving. Though I don't see it being much good either, I think it will provide a bit more inspiration than the Guide movie for RPGs.

*The website Planet Magrathea has a very comprehensive review of the film. I don't remember the URL, but it's pretty easy to find, I'm sure. Google it and you'll see what I mean. And now we shall have no more Guide-movie discussion, because it will get off-topic and bad.

And it will finally be over.

It's not exactly a new movie, but House of Flying Daggers from the makers of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon looks pretty good. All in all, though, movie pickings over the past three months have been rather poor. Looking up though, with those already mentioned on this thread.

I've been hearing some stuff about a Russian movie called Nightwatch that's supposed to make it over here sometime in later summer. Apparently it's gotten a ton of fans over there, enough to be seriously considered for a trilogy release worldwide. Dread Central (where I found the link below) said that it beat out both the Spider-Man and LotR movies in box office numbers in Russia.

I'm still not sure what it's about, apparently ancient armies reawakening for a modern apocalyptic battle, or something. Anyhow, trailer is below.

I'm very excited to see Howl's Moving Castle. I've loved everthing Studio Ghibli's done.

I'm curious about Kingdom of Heaven. And against my better judgment, excited to see Revenge of the Sith.

I cannot wait to see Romero's Land of the Dead. Just saw a trailer for it yesterday. Very glad it's been bumped up from fall to a summer release.
