I just created my first old fashioned curse for 5E -- and by that I mean not a cursed item or the result of a curse spell, but the kind of curse you get for disturbing a mummy's tomb or accidentally insulting a fairy. In this case, it was built around greed and "tainted" treasure (see the Magical Monday: Zetherith's Gold entry in my sig for the whole story). Because of the back story (an incubus was involved) the curse is such that anyone keeping the money or using it for selfish desires is cursed and suffers disadvantage against all saves versus magical charm (and outsiders with a magical charm ability know this simply by seeing the character) until they atone by charitably spending or giving away three times as much as they used for themselves.
So, do you think that is a "good" curse -- "good" in the sense that it is both flavorful and has a detrimental but not overwhelmingly negative impact? If not, what would you do differently? Do you use curses like that in your game, or even cursed items? If so, what cool curses have you come up with, and in what contexts?
For players, how do you feel about curses? Would you be angry if you were curses for engaging in what is usually considered "normal" adventuring activity like breaking into tombs or killing evil beings? Is it something that would add to the game and/or world for you, or would it detract from your fun?
