is there a quicksand hazard/trap anywhere? I did a quick search in the online compendium, but couldn't find it.

Not that I know of. You could model it as a skill challenge where the PCs lose healing surges if they fail checks. Or you could have a staggered saving throw model... "PC is immobilized, save ends. First failed save, they are restrained. Second failed save, they are stunned. Third failed save, they are sucked beneath the swamp, never to be seen again. Save does not end."

I was thinking along those lines, but not quite so harsh...

DC: 21 Perception check to notice the hazard and avoid.
Attack is +13 vs Reflex
On hit: Target is knocked prone and immobilized (save ends)
Target can make a DC:26 Athletics check to crawl one square to escape quicksand.
First Failed save: Target is partially sucked in, is now prone & restrained
Second Failed save: Target is sucked under and is blinded, dazed and restrained. Must spend second wind to stay alive. Allies lose line of sight to target. Each round under, the target must spend a healing surge to stay alive.

Allies can attempt to add +2 to saving throw with a successful Aid Another check, which assumes a rope, branch, leg or arm is able to be extended to Target.

You could tweak the lava rules:

Answers to all your most pressing quicksand-based questions. If your question isn't answered here, it's probably not worth asking. Trust us; we're professionals.

Q: What happens if I fall into quicksand?
A:
If you fall into quicksand you die. No save.

Q:
Don't I get a saving throw?
A: If you fall into quicksand, you die. No save.

Q:
But Sage Advice said I get a saving throw!
A:
Tell you what. Push the Sage into a pool of quicksand and see what kind of saving throw he gets.

Seriously, though, I think it has to be a hazard/trap, not a skill challenge. Of course, I suck at running skill challenges, so I'm a little biased. I think the initial perception check probably needs to be very high, but I like the idea of letting the potential victim substitute a Nature check for Perception to notice the quicksand. If failed, then maybe a close burst 1 (area of the quicksand is probably 2x2 square or something) +X attack vs. Reflex.

On the initial hit being knock prone doesn't really happen and also makes the cinematic view of grasping the overhanging branch impossible. After the second failed save, I'd just run it as per the suffocation rules, no need to repeat those. What you need, however, are rules for getting help to get out of the quicksand. The obvious method is something sticking a pole into the quicksand, so maybe allies need an attack roll vs. total concealment and that gives you a save to escape with +2?

On other thing is that once hit, no save for maybe 2 rounds, but if the PC tries to escape (Athletics check) and fails, then he's automatically treat as failing the first save. This is much more akin to what I see in movies and such and reinforces the though of "don't struggle, we'll be right there to help."

Good idea - I'd award you XP, but I need to spread it around first.
