Good rule of thumb

I hope the OP meant this as humor. :p

As with any other type of debate, focus purely on the content of what is being presented and use your own brain to decide if that content is agreeable or not. A broken clock is still correct two times a day and a lot of posts is just that-a lot of posts.

Just because you post a lot doesn't mean you can't be wrong.
That is correct. Which is why I said it's not always... bur probably.

The other thing to remember though, is that most of the people on these board with high post counts do not participate in rules interpretation discussion. Like most of the folks over in the Play-by-Post games. Instead, it's usually a select couple dozen posters here on 4E Discussion who you'll find contributing most often to rules questions and arguments. And thus... the 1000 post count over yours is still a good rule of thumb.

Was I trying to be humorous with my post? Sure. But I also don't think my rule of thumb is wrong.

So, because I dont participate often I dont know the rules?

Try again.

The rule of thumb should be "find out if the people talking are making a good point. Post count means nothing"

Meh.

Post count doesn't mean anything. Standing alone on an issue doesn't mean anything. I have a better rule of thumb:

* If you find yourself arguing a 4E rule with someone, take a break.

Not at all. You might very well know the rules. But do you argue the rules here on ENWorld? If you don't... then my post doesn't apply to you. You know the rules, or you know your version of the rules that you're happy playing with... and don't feel the need to try convince people here on the boards that your interpretation is correct.

But if you have in fact participated in a thread here on ENWorld where your rule interpretation was disagreed with... I'm making an educated guess that if the person you were arguing with has a thousand more posts than you, or you had 5 other people telling you your interpretation was wrong... that you in fact were probably incorrect in your rules assessment.

Don't make my statements any stronger than they are. Low post count does not in itself imply stupidity or lack of rules knowledge in any of what I've said.

Hmm, wonder what my post count is.... because I was wrong on something a week or two ago and I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about 4e rules.

Ahh, see, DEFCON1 is about 1000 more than me so he's right :)

The only rule of thumb should be: If you are arguing rules with Hyper, then you are wrong or masochist. Of course, I am not even sure he plays 4e, but if he did, anyway.

As for others, I can name a lot of posters with very high postcounts who often argue rules here, and are (often) wrong.

So no, I do not think anyone should follow your rule of thumb.

I do however think that if you get annoyed by people who wont listen to reasonable arguments on the internet, you might want to turn off the computer. Its not about to change.
