Good rule of thumb

Oh psssh, I've been wrong before, and have even been convinced of my wrongitude.

----------

So here's a question for you, DEFCON.

You've got a serviceable rule for those of set A; regular posters in the sub-forum who are not DracoSuave. But how does that apply to the set of regular posters in the sub-forum who ARE DracoSuave?

This introduces a value called 'Effective Postcount' which is a calculation based on Postcount, modified by the level of DracoSuave. However, Specific beats General, which brings us to this:

If you are arguing rules with Hyper, then you are wrong or masochist.

Hyper has the power of the absolute [wrong or masochist] field, which we shall called the AWM. But Draco's Draco-level is as well absolute, no one is more Draco than Draco.

So what happens if Hypersmurf and DracoSuave take opposite sides in a rules debate?

Discuss. Rules citations or it never happened.

Added question: What about when Mike Mearls is introduced... how does his ruination apply to this scenario?

For the record... I have a lot of respect for Hypersmurf's rules-debate. The man groks the rules well. It's not often I find him to be incorrect. And when I do, I drink Dos Equis.

I'd just like to argue that I argue the rules a lot, and I am often wrong, so your rule is wrong DEFCON1. And I'm right because my postcount is more than 1k more than yours.

Nyer.

This is one of the lamest rules of thumb I've ever seen.

Oh, and I have like 3000 more posts than you, and I do discuss 4e rules here. Heck, I used to discuss 3.0 and 3.5 rules actively here as well.

So either that makes me right...or it makes me wrong, in which case it makes me right.

Thumbs down to rule of thumb.

It's a bit like: Don't argue with me I have more post than you!!!!

I remember having a rules argument about Implements with the man himself, DracoSuave, way back when I was only a 100 post Enworlder. Yes, I know how foolish of me! (I read a lot more threads than I do post in them)

And yes, he was right and I was wrong... I admit it....

But guess what, they just changed the rules to how I had been ruling implements from the get go. So... technically I was right all along!!! And I say that with only the slightest hint of smugness!

A good rule of thumb is: Remain Civil, Be polite, don't take things personally, don't overreact, be open to receiving constructive criticism, when you criticise do it constructively, don't eat yellow snow.

Okay, that's quite a few rules of thumb, but they are all good ones.

Clearly, it's because you've gotten more post-count, thusly attaining more Draco-ness. The rule of thumb is for simulation purposes, not as a reflection of actual narrative gravitas.

Agreed.

the 1000 post level is too hard to remember. Let's just go with one more post than Defcon_1 currently has.

Much easier that way. ;)

As DEFCON1’s post count is more than 1000 higher than mine I’m not allowed to think he’s wrong. Therefore I am assuming the entirety of his original post is facetious, as are any follow up posts he makes.

I’m hard pressed to believe that someone would actually believe that they are more correct than someone else because they’ve taken the time to reply or post, possibly without restraint, far more than another person.

So, because I dont participate often I dont know the rules?

Try again.

The rule of thumb should be "find out if the people talking are making a good point. Post count means nothing"
That would be the like... all the time rule. But that takes time, reading through and stuff.

The whole point of a rule of thumb is to quickly decide something based on probabilities. I agree, if I have 5 guys of 1000+ post count trying to prove me wrong, I am probably (notice how it doesn't say ALWAYS) wrong.

EDIT: Not that I'd use this 'rule of thumb,' most of the... fun??? is in reading the forum, not glancing at it and making a snap-judgment.
