Good spell to cast via Miracle for my evil cleric?

NewJeffCT

First Post
My evil cleric is airborne and is engaged in one-on-one melee with probably the most difficult PC for her in my group of players... he is an elf fighter/paladin of freedom/champion of Corellon.

So, he has an outrageously high AC, and also a very high Touch AC (improved combat expertise), so she can't hit him with touch or ranged touch spells without a good chance of missing. (she has several of those ready to go, alas, they're basically useless against a guy whose touch AC is in the 40s...)

She specializes in Domination & Tyranny, so a lot of her spells are also tailored towards mind-affecting powers, which the elf is also immune to due to being a paladin of freedom. (Her plan was to use the Mind Affecting spells to neutralize one of the PCs via Compulsion...)

What would be a good offensive spell she can cast via Miracle to stop the elf? Maybe Delayed Blast Fireball or a Maximized Energy Burst? Anything in the Spell Compendium?

Thanks

You don't have to aim Finger of Death so it might be helpfull.

Or a little less brutal, Force cage, gets her out of combat until someone cast disintegrate on it for him/her. There is no saving throw against Force cage IIRC and you could choose that range attacks can come through, which means every spell.

(at work, sorry if this isn't so helpful)

Offensive spells:

Avasculate (SpC) removes half the target's hp with no save. There's also a fort save for a 1 round stun, but that won't affect the hp damage unless the elf has Mettle.

Forcecage?

Power Word Blind, possibly after using Avasculate or a level draining spell. Crud...Pal of Freedom, nevermind.

Depending on how the Elf is flying, a Greater Dispel Magic might work rather well on items.

Defensive spells:

Ethereal Jaunt + force spells, or the Transdimensional Spell feat.

I don't think you can use Miracle to get metamagic versions of spells.

I don't see any restrictions on Miracle in terms of metamagic, though if you maximized an Energy Burst, it would not be as a 7th level power, it would be as a level 5 power, maximized for 4 more power points to make it a level 7 power. Plus, if you picked Fire or Cold, you could add +1 per die of damage. I realize you can't maximize a level 6 or 7 spell/power.

And, good call on Finger of Death above, as I had thought it was a ranged touch. Flesh to Stone might work as well.

I love Avasculate, as it is deliciously evil, but I think it is a ranged touch attack? (a necromancer had done that to the party's raging goliath barbarian a few months back... ME: "How many hit points do you have now?" HER: "274" ME: "A black ray hits and and blood shoots out of your mouth and ears, and you take 137 points of damage, roll a fortitude save now..."

Now, if they are both 20 feet in the air (both via Fly spells) would the Forcecage stay aloft, or would it drop to the ground?

I rule that you can use metamagic feats with miracle/wish even if you don't have them. But I don't have a rule at hand which would serve my point.

It would stay in the air as the cage is immobile.
And I guess you could even land upon it for cover...

Unless your paladin has some means of teleportation, I would concur that forcecage is the best, and also the most despicable thing you can do to your PC. ;)

At the level they are at, every PC should have some form of teleportation, even if it is a once per day very short range item.

Should being the key word... And, if the evil cleric puts him in a 10 foot solid forcecage, she can then use her move action to fly 60 feet away in a random direction and possibly put herself out of the paladin's charge range without risking an AoO.

well Maze would be better, as it also offers no save. But, it's level 8 (does any other class have access to it at level 7 or lower?)

I don't know, but that reminds me that Otto's Irresistable Dance is level 6 for Bards...

I know, huge touch AC. But, there are buffs to help with that if getting off one spell is really important. Even a quickened True Strike from...some source...would help.

Back to Forcecage, I forgot about MIC, lol. That book lets you short range teleport 3-5 times a day for the price of two full plate armors. But hey, if the PC didn't bother with any of those, I say he deserves to get locked in place. :)
