Goodberries while Unconscious?

ControlFreak

First Post
In my game a druid with some goodberries wants to force-feed them to an unconscious player to heal/stabilize him. Would this lead to the desired effect, or would it more likely lead to choking to death?

Since you can put a potion down someones mouth, yes sure, a berry is less dangerous.

I agree.

Should work, looking in PHB 3.0e doesn't say anything about digesting the berry to get the desired effect.

Realisitically, neither a potion nor a berry would be a good idea, more likely leading to aspiration and suffocation than to healing.

Given that potions are specifically allowed, however, and for the sake of the game, I'd say yes.

It would be a full round action as is using a potion on an unconscious person , in my opinion.

Keeps it simple to remember and consitent with the rules.

In most games I've played in, as well as DM'ed, there has always been a house rule that the individual forcing the potion down an unconscience persons' throat had to make a Heal check DC 5 or drown the person. Using this, I would state (as a house rule) that the druid had to make a Heal check DC 5 or the individual accidently choked on it.

Strangely enough twice since 3rd has come out has someone died from failing this check. Once it was the cleric who went unconscience and no one else in the party had ranks in heal. Bad roll, cleric dead. The second time the decided leader of the group felt he should be the one who gave the potion, even though he didn't have any ranks in Heal or a Wis modifier. He failed the roll; the bad thing, they had a character in the party with ranks in Heal.

This has caused most players in my group and those I've played in to take enough ranks in Heal so that they cannot fail a DC 5 Heal check.
