Goodman NOT going GSL it looks like

I'm not in the market for 4E stuff, so Goodman's direction there, doesn't matter much to me (although I do think the GSL is bad for a "big name" like Goodman). What I'm really excited about is the 1e material coming out (and apparently more 1e material than in previous years).

Mongoose announced they were using the GSL for Wraith Recon (I think that was the title).

Necromancer was going with it, but they have been very quiet for a long time...

True in both cases. We'll see about Necro. Companies can change their minds and it's definitely an interesting time to be a publisher.

I'll take a "glass half-full" approach to the news and state that this is also definitive proof that Goodman is supporting 4th Ed., and not 3.5x/Pathfinder; which is probably more important than the license they use.

Doesn't mean they won't when PFRPG officially is released. They just aren't for the moment while final official rules are out of print.

I love that Goodman is releasing 1E stuff... but why does it have to be a GenCon exclusive? Do most 1E/Old School gamers even go to GenCon anymore?

From Goodman's own press release link all empasis mine.

Nothing in that press release conflicts with them potentially going with the GSL (or a separate license) in October.

We don't know anything more than we knew before that:

A.) From the now until October, they aren't using the GSL.
B.) In October they are either going copyright, using the GSL, or have a separate license with WotC.

Most of the time they make it available via their site after Gencon (if they have extras) or you can find copies of them on ebay, or elsewhere. Thats where I got my few 1E GG modules.
