Google Desktop Search

I downloaded this last week and installed it. It took a few hours to index everything on my computer but, once it did, it was a snap to find anything on my hard drives.

You do know there are some big security holes in the google desktop search, right? It indexes everything you do, including IM messages, emails, and all weppages that you visit. I love google, but the desktop search is a bit too good for my tastes.

Plus you can set it not to scan things, like Outlook e-mail and AOL IM.

I've been using it also. Like reveal mentioned you can turn off some of the searching you don't want. I really don't use it as much as I thought I would though, but when I do, it is pretty darn quick.

Thanks for that info. Didn't know they fixed it, I just remember when it came out and security folks were having a field day breaking it on test machines around the country.

There is still an inherant flaw in the program - if someone sits down at your computer, it's very easy for them to see what you've been up to. If you're the only user, it's not so bad, but with multi-user computers there can be privacy issues.

I only use it at home so I don't really care. Plus people can do that now with the built in Search function in Windows.
