got Wilderlands?

Thanks. You answered my question. I like some tech in my fantasy; my newest creation is a Renissance world with clockwork style tech (stuff stolen from Mechamancy).

Since I have too many settings already, I think I'll pick up the Player's Guide VEEL-dor-loonts instead.

Actually nothing, if you don't mind a little peanut butter in your chocolate. ;)

Mmmm, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups! :D

Incidently, is that smooth or chunky peanut butter?

Well, to be fair, it started 30 years ago, but hasn't really been around for that long in active support. That's like saying Carse, Tulan, and Jonril were around for 30 years.
OMG, Joe, you're way off on this one! Wilderlands was very active nearly the whole 30 years. Judges Guild ran into the mid-eighties, Mayfair picked it up until the early 90's, Judges guild started re-printing City State of the Invincible Overlord in '96, and Judges Guild has sold very robustly on Ebay for the last 10 years, to the point that there are merchants who deal in little else. Even during the "dry" years (91-96?) most Judges Guild product was available (new and in shrinkwrap) from the inimitable Lou Zocchi (remember his ads in Dragon?). That's hardly Jonril (which incidentally could be considered well supported from all the Midkemia novels!) Seriously though, that's like saying Grayhawk and Middle Earth havn't been supported!

I recall Mayfair doing the City State of the Invicible Warlord, but it is NOTHING like the Judges guild stuff. Surely you're not counting that as support. That's be like saying the Forgotten Realms is support for Greyhawk. (Then again, I'm one of the werid ones who liked some of the stuff Mayfair did with it.)

And you'd have to give me some dates on mid-eighties. I recall the Role Aids stuff, but almost all the Judges Guild goods I was buying was already old and shrink wrapped that that point. I'm not afraid to admit that my timing may be off here, because I remember all the Companions stuff bieng out of print around this time too, but still being able to find it at select stores.

Selling well on Ebay... well, some basic D&D books and Arduin books sell well on D&D too. Heck, Emperor's Headquarters used to bundle them up and pack them off when they were around old Iriving Park and Central streeet in Chicago. I don' t count that as support but that's just me.

And note, I'm not saying that it's bad, just saying that it's active support hasn't been going straight on for 30 years.

A lot of people would say nothing starting at "From the Ashes" and beyond really constitutes support for Greyhawk :p

I'm thinking "supported" in terms of, "is product for the setting readily available and are thousands of people using it and networking about it", though I suppose you make an arguement that support should mean "are brand-new products coming out every month" in which case I would, of course, be wrong. Regardless, my post was regarding someone's (inho very wrong! :D ) statement that the Wilderlands have no personality and the fact that after 30 years its still going stronger than ever.

Now for a glass of Rhamsandron Red...

You are not incorrect there sir! I loved the Greyhawk Wars boardgame too. Such a shame....

Fair enough. Part of me wonders if it would've been even bigger had it avoided d20 and gone the C&C route. Ditto for Blackmoor.

Lucky dog!

And in comes the book.

Looks good so far.

For some reason I was thinking the maps were in color.

Ah well, doesn't really effect my enjoyment of 'em.

There was a color map in the Players Guide to the Wilderlands, and one available as a download on either the Necromancer or Judges Guild site.

In terms of scale, the color map in the PGtW doesn't compare.

The maps are about the same quality as the one in City State of the Invicible Overlord.

Not once has anyone at Necromancer Games said the maps would be color maps. In fact, we have specifically stated on our boards that they are black and white. I can only guess that the color map in the Player's Guide somehow lead people to believe that these maps would be color too. The cost for color maps in terms of art and then printing, etc. would have been totally insane. As it is, the maps were a huge cost.

Oh, and yes, I think Rob's maps are award-winning quality maps like those Ed did for CSIO.

I can understand that, and I'm probably one of those people who thought that the full color map in the Player's Guide was an indicator of the maps here being full color.

And yes, that's what I meant when I said that the maps are about equal. Anyone who reads a lot of my posts/reviews knows that I love Ed's maps!
