got Wilderlands?

The cost for color maps in terms of art and then printing, etc. would have been totally insane. As it is, the maps were a huge cost.
Just curious - what (roughly) is the print cost for a double-sided, b&w, 22x17 map?

I don't know that anyone would be able to accuratly answer that question. How many copies of the map are you talking about? A print run of 1000 copies is going to be a lot more per map than a print run of 10,000.

The original Wilderlands maps were in black-and-white. No big deal.

While I agree it's not big deal, if you're going to compare them, note that others have already claimed that their original maps are made of sturdier material.

There are pros and cons to nostalgia.

And the older maps weren't the same quality of grayscale. So what?

And while this has nothing to do with the point in question, it's just something that I'd like to take a moment to mention, since in came up: LIKING SOMETHING TWENTY OR THIRTY YEARS OLD ISN'T ALWAYS NOSTALGIA - SOMETIMES IT'S JUST BETTER THAN WHAT'S AVAILABLE NOW.

My copies of the maps are sturdy ... lamination all of 'em ain't cheap, and they warned me the process might wrinkle something that large on thin paper, but the result is damn cool. My complaint with the maps, however, isn't the lack of color. It's that the pairings of maps. Maps 1 & 2 belong next to each other, but I can't place them next to each other because they're the reverse sides of the same sheet of paper. Instead of 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc. it should have been 1-10, 2-11, 3-12, etc.. Other than that, the whole product is awesome, though.

Well, in this case, are the old maps better or worse? I was pointing out that there are pros and cons to looking at older products and comparing them to newer ones. You just seem to be SCREAMING that sometimes older stuff is better, which in terms of RPGs at least, is 100% subjective.

Naturally. The Epic of Gilgamesh is about five thousand years old (maybe more?), but it is better literature than Anne Rice or Danielle Steel. Games aren't technology, they don't necessarily "evolve". But as JoeGKushner stated, it is subjective whether it was better in the old days or not.

Got Wilderlands? I do ...

Amazon came through for me and I got my copy today. It was delayed because of Columbus Day in the United States on Monday (no mail on Monday), curse you Columbus!!!

It sure is hefty.....and real purdy....can't wait to dig in and plan my monster campaign.

As I said earlier,I was thinking of running a monster tribe of orcs/goblins as PCs in the Wilderlands.

Any ideas of where a large number of humanoid tribes could be located in the Wilderlands world? I am completely new to it and would be interested in opinions.

Any guidance would be great for those who have been able to read a portion of this.

Well, if you're looking for orcs, there's a few spots right in the Elphand Lands in Chapter one. Check out 2512 Fortress Masprak, 3318 Firbolg, 4025 Sipar. That'll get you started.

Cheers
