[GR PR] Green Ronin to Develop RPGs for GW's BL Publishing

Yea there may be new books to buy but if the format is the same then it will only be ONE book. That is the one thing that I loved about WFRP, is that you only have to buy that ONE book and no others. For D&D the cost is so much more since I have to buy a minimum of 3 books.'

Plus in keeping to the same system I can still use my old stuff. Yea!

you've never played the mini game have you? every year there is an update and a new book to buy..always new books to buy...

Because myself and 3/4 of my group plays WH tabletop game and D20 for our fantasy game. We HAVE tried WFRP and it just was not our cup of tea.

Very much ditto.

But they seem to not be targeting "d20/WH players" (which are probably many.)

But rather, "existing WHFRP players". Which may also be many, I don't know. That's their gambit.

HOLY CRAP!!

Congratulations guys! THAT really is good news!

Well I hope GR are taking new artists on for this... my submission is on its way whether you are or not! lol

Woah!!!

Someone just hit the jackpot!!!

It does feel like winning the lottery. :)

I was wondering what kind of impact this will have on Green Ronin's D20 releases.

We are rearranging our schedule a bit to accomodate the new workload. However, it's because of this deal that we hired Steve Kenson and Rob Schwalb last month. Now that Rob is d20 Line Developer, I'm freed up to concentrate on WFRP2. We are continuing with our d20 and M&M releases and no products have been cancelled because of this deal. There will be goodness aplenty.

Nice, we can't stand getting less Green Ronin goodness! ;-)

So anything on whether or not the Games Workshop stores will carry the RPG material or not?

I'm really interested in the possible changes in the WH world, i sure hope that it will stay close to the original WHFRP game and not drift into all the gimmicks that WH now has. Any such details or guidelines available?

Will the line be supported by a magazine?
How many supplements can we expect in 2005?

Dude! Between this, Skull & Bones and Black Company, GR is going to have the best repetoire of low magic in the industry. ;)

Any plan to get GW regular artists to freelance?

OK so the new system is a revised WHFRP.

Does that necessarily preclude a single d20 conversion book? Actual Skaven, beastmen, and chaos demons would be great in a D&D game. As well as chaos champions, demonologist, necromancer, illusionist, battle mage, and elementalist prestige classes, and an optional critical hit chart ("your blow shatters the bone in your opponent's leg. By chance a bone sliver severs the femural artery. Death is instantaneous") and fate points. Even assigning the gods domains would be useful and fun.

Please consider it in addition to the new edition.

One thing I'm curious about is balanced. Warhammer never went the whole "Everything must be balanced" theory. Heck, the starting careers were random and sometimes you had to spend 1K xp just to equal someone who rolled better than you. This doesn't take into account the races either.

On Grim and Gritty feel... I don't buy it. I've played many a game of Warhammer and the system itself does not lend itself to that type of play. You get a dwarf with a good toughness and some armor and the GM has to get really lucky with the open ended rolls to finish him off. Not saying that it can't be done in that fashion but it was always more about mood and atmosphere than the rules themselves brining me up to...

Is this going to be the Warhammer FRPG setting or the Warhammer Tabletop setting? While there are many similiarities, there are many more major differences, especially in the Empire itself where in the tabletop, the main ruler has a rune blade and rides a griffon while the tabletop has him as a nitwit.

While I understand the book itself being non-d20, will any of the sourcebooks go dual statting? It's seemed to work for AEG and a few other publishers and as others have mentioned, much of the material has a direct d20 feel to it already and would make an excellent fit.

WIll the core book still be a 'complete' book like the current one is? The fact that I can run a Warhammer FRPG with just the main book is a great thing.

Any final decesions about the format? I always thought it was strange that Hogshead made the Realms of Sorcery book both hardcover and softcover but only had a softcover for the core book itself. Perhaps even a limited edition leatherbound in black with the symbol of chaos in gold?

I've played GW games for a while and run a heck of a GW website, so I've been in contact with their Intellectual Property guys a number of times and have a good idea how they see things. Basically, they don't want WFRP to be D20 because that would open up Skaven, Chaos Warriors, their versions of the different races, their magic, almost everything to the Open Gaming world at large, and they want to keep that stuff in-house, like they've kept it for over 20 years now. This is the best way for them to control it - D20 would be opening up an IP Pandora's Box.
