When you get a chance I hope you can check out
Dragon issues #326, #328, and #329 for covers that might be more along the lines of what you're asking for. One could even argue that the cover for #330 is a departure from conventional magazine wisdom. I'm not sure what Erik and Sean (our art director) have in mind, but I believe they want to experiment with running more pictures that tell a story, like those mentioned above.

326! How did I miss this one. Thats a fine example, but then the subsequent ones, while approaching the quality of 326, are marred by the giant type on the covers.
329 was interestingly different, but I'm also looking for more "action" on the cover after the matter of the Wayne Reynolds art cited above.
330 is a headshot, though an entertaining one.
328 is not much more than a torso shot.
