D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master: how about -5 AC instead of -5 to hit?

Ranger/barbarian/fighter/warlock. A very MAD oriented character. I am very very curious about your character development and how it worked out. We did some of these 4 classes characters in our white room analysis and they always were suboptimal. If such a character can take on a CR23 alone, I am very intrigued.
You missed where it got help from two other party members: pass without a trace and haste

I don't think it would work well because of the mobile feat, cunning action, misty step and other ways to disengage without being targeted/

Can you elaborate? I don't see how the Mobile feat affects things, Misty Step requires use of a resource that isn't at-will, and Cunning Action doesn't affect the penalty to AC.

Mobile lets you remove the ability of one target to make opportunity attacks against you, as well as give you +10 ft speed. So GWM-strike against your opponent, dealing monstrous damage but opening yourself up to counterattacks, and then run off at full speed without getting any opportunity attacks back, and now you're likely beyond the target's reach.

Are you assuming a one-on-one combat?

No, but it lets the GWM player avoid the penalties for his bonuses. At least if he's fighting the ones who are closest and there aren't any ranged foes which is pretty common.

Right. But neither Mobility not the Disengage action prevent ordinary attacks; they only prevent Attacks of Opportunity.

Ever watch a rogue move up to sneak attack & onus action cunning action disengage to leave the opponent stuck in melee with others? Mobility protects you from the AoO of moving away while the distance protects against the "ordinary attacks" The opponent would need to sucj AoOs from everyone it is in reach of oif it gave chase to a mobility using PC

Right. But that implies that the opponent isn't engaged with others they might take opportunity attacks from, and that the opponent is fast enough to catch up.
