Greater Gaseous Form

Greater Gaseous Form
Transmutation
Level: Sor/Wiz 6
Duration: 10 min./level

This spell is as Gaseous form except for a few key differences: The flight speed is 30, the damage reduction is 10/-, and you don't just become misty or translucent. When you cast the spell you choose gas color, opaquity, and scent, these cannot be altered. However, you can change the mass of your gas (:)) to up to a 20 ft. radius (as Obscuring Mist or Fog Cloud) or down to a 3 ft. radius (occupying approximately a 5 ft. square). You can also just keep a rough outline of your original shape, or alter between either of those limits (It is a full-round action to expand or contract your gaseous form). This spell retains all the limitations of the original including inability to cast spells with any components and inability to attack.

I'd like feedback on whether or not level 6 is the appropriate level for this spell and/or where you feel it falls with regard to other level 6 spells (weak, average, powerful).

Thanks for any feedback,

Looks pretty good to me.

Compare to Wind Walk and Ghostform (from Tome & Blood). Wind Walk is much faster, with a longer duration, but less of the funky utility. Ghostform is similar in what it can do, lasts a shorter period of time, but slightly more powerful while it lasts.

I'd probably give the user the option to leave gaseous form as a full-round action and then return if the spell hasn't expired yet. Staying in a form where you can't interact with the world for hours on end isn't that useful. =]

Looks pretty good, but I definitely agree with this:

I like it, some of the phrasing seems informal but thats just a little thing. It also looks balanced.

Oops, I meant to make it dismissable. Although if you could switch between gas and corporeal states, that would make it pretty powerful...

Turn into a gas, maneuver to where you want to be, turn corporeal, cast a spell, reform into a gas. Of course the character who designed this is a sorcerer with access to Eschew Materials, Still Spell, and Silent Spell, meaning the bonds of gassiness dont restrict his spellcasting (just the speed of his spellcasting).

Thanks for the input!
