Greater Magic Fang & monk [2002 Thread]

How much would it cost to cast a permanent Greater Magic Fang on a Monk? If you can give it for the lowest and highest caster level, that would be great.
Thank,

Well technically speaking Greater Magic Fang is not a spell that is explicitly listed under the Permanency spell in the PHB. But if your DM allows it, I would use the guidelines for other 3rd level spells. So the minimum caster level would be 11th and the XP cost would be 1,500. As long as these pre-requisites are met, the XP cost would be the same. So it would be worth your while to find a 15th level druid to cast the spell on you (for a +5 enhancement).

Or, for fun, you could handle it differently: require the feat Craft Magic Arms and Armor.

As a DM, I'd be willing to consider a monk's body to be a masterwork weapon. The process of crafting the monk's fist (or foot, or knee, or whatever) into a magic weapon would be grueling, involving tattoos, burning, treatments in rarified acids, and the like. It'd hurt a lot, and do a lot of (healable) damage.

In the end, though, the fist (knee, etc.) would be a magic item, incidentally attached to the monk. Note that, for extra fun, I'd rule that it'd still work as a magic item even if detached from its original owner....

Note that this strays pretty far into uncharted rules territory, but it has two advantages over the permanancy option (which is also not covered in the official rules):
1) It puts the cost of a permanent magic fist much more in line with the cost of a permanent magic weapon; and
2) It's way cooler. :)

Monks Body = Masterwork weapon. That is a funny thought. Of course now I'll have my monk argueing that he needs to geta n extra +1 to hit because he's masterwork. See all the trouble you're causing me!! :D

There's a simple solution to that problem. Tell him the +1 is included in his base attack bonus, and beat him soundly about the head.

No, the real advantage is down at the tavern. "Hey, baby," he can say, sliding up to a tavern wench. "This body is a masterwork weapon."

lol, Dogma was funny. But it would be kind of weird seeing a monk whose hands are covered in electricity. Oh, and what bonus is Sure Strike(ing?) I've heard that's it's +1 and some that say +2. Do you still need the +1 enchantment bonus to have Sure Strike? Is it in the DMG or S&F? I really want to know how this enchantment works.

What would be funny would be allowing it... but having the mage that did the enchanting forget to tell the monk that there are two command words - one to turn the Fire/Frost/Shock on, and one to turn it off.

And then having some accident befall the mage between the time the monk first sets his hands on fire, and the time he makes it back to the mage's tower to ask how to stop them...

You guys are mean!

(I was talking about this with the fellow who plays a monk in the game I play in, and he had similar points. We eventually decided that a monk with a +1 shocking fist would need to wear gloves all the time; when the gloves came off, you knew there would be trouble!

I know that according to the rules, you can turn flaming weapons on or off. But the gloves have a higher cool-factor.
