Sounds like Jack Elam to me.

If so, definitely not limited to B-movies. Rio Lobo and Once Upon a Time in the West are among his credits.

Rio Lobo was an relatively early John Wayne western. Once Upon a Time in the West, with Henry Fonda doing his only role (that I'm aware of) as a heavy, is a classic. Not a typical western, either.
