Greatest Villain!

Movie-based: Vader or Emporer Palpatine (he's just so eeeevil!)
Comics based: Lex Luthor and the Joker.
TV-based: Q, Drusilla or The Mayor.

The winner: Vader by a chokehold. :p

Greatest Villains (in no particular order)...

1. Darth Vader
2. The T-1000
3. The Terminator (Terminator 1)
4. Ernst Blofeld.
5. Kahn (of Star Trek II fame)

Comics:

Loki, from the Thor comics. Inspired.
Sinestro, from the Green Lantern Comics.
The Joker, the greatest ever.
Lex Luthor, the archetype of the mad scientist.
The Mandarin, from the Iron Man comics. Truly awesome.
Mephisto, from the Thor and Silver Sufer Comics.

As an aside, I think it would be great if they did another crossover of DC and Marvel, only this time, the villians fight each other, instead of the heroes. Lex Luthor vs Dr Doom. Now there is a comic I would pay for.

Movies/Television:

Aku, from Samurai Jack. No others (in this medium) can compare to the Deliverer of Darkness, the Master of Masters, the Shogun Of Sorrow, AKU.

Books:

Rimmer Dall, from the Heritage Of Shannara.
Pe Ell, from the same series.
Draken Korin (really, the Valheru as a whole), from the Riftwar Saga.

re

Darth Vader: No one can beat the voice and presence of the ultimate dark Jedi.

Dr. Doom: The best Marvel villain of all time.

Morgoth: You can't be the devil in terms of sheer power. It took the most powerful host of Valar, men and elves to finally drive Morgoth from the world.

Hannibal Lecter: For his style and charisma, the Anthony Hopkins Lecter.

I guess I'll add George Lucas to the list for utterly ruining the second Star Wars trilogy through bad writing and incredibly poor casting choices for the young Vader.

I would have to say it's a close one between Darth Vader, The Joker and Apocalypse. I think at this point and time I will go with Apocalypse for no specific reason over the others.

The NBC executives who decided to cancel the original Star Trek.

My serious answer would be Iago from Shakepeare's Othello; for comic book villains you have to go with either Thanos or Darksied. Darth Vader qualified from the years 1977 to 1980, but softened a bit with "Empire Strikes Back", and more so with each movie threafter.

I completely agree---but would respectfully add Lady Macbeth and Aaron (from Titus Andronicus) to the list.

Aaron's final speech is just about the best 'villain's opus' I can recall

"O, why should wrath be mute, and fury dumb?
I am no baby, I, that with base prayers
I should repent the evils I have done:
Ten thousand worse than ever yet I did
Would I perform, if I might have my will;
If one good deed in all my life I did,
I do repent it from my very soul."
