Earlier this week, I turned to my Living Greyhawk Gazetteer to brush up on Sterich as I was reading "Istivin: City of Shadows" and "A Touch of the Abyss" in the new issue of Dungeon (# 117). Instead I found myself absorbed and plowing through most of the book again. Every few years Greyhawk latches onto me for a while and this is probably the beginning of the lastest bout.

At any rate, all this Greyhawk reading has gotten me to wonder what areas of the Flanaes people have used significantly in their campaigns, hence this poll. I've used the cultural and geographic divisions used in the 1998 Greyhawk relaunch and again more recently in the LGG, though I've separated out the Domain of Greyhawk into it's own category so as not to skew the results in favor of the Western Nyr Dyv, and also added a new entry for Beyond the Flanaess. Note that these regions are not usually the same as the character regions used in the Living Greyhawk campaign.

So vote on your favorite area to set adventures in, and feel free to jump in with discussion about how you've used different areas. I'd be particularly intersted in hearing from folks who've gotten good use out of some of the fringe areas such as the Baklunish West, Bitter North, Thrillonrian Peninsula, Isolated Realms, or beyond.

Oh yeah, my own preference is the Sheldomar Valley, especially the lost lands of Geoff and Sterich. That said, I've never really used any of them as despite my re-ocurring love for the setting, I've yet to run a Greyhawk campaign, though I've often wanted to and still hope to get around to it one of these days.

So far, I'm a player in Sterich/Geoff and DM in Bissel ... they both have their advantages and disadvantages. I'd think a romp across the Pomarj would be fun, too, but what I'd really like to do is head for Furyondy and join the good fight vs. Iuz...

The oceans of Oerth and the infamous "Mysterious Places"

My current campaign is set the Dramidj Ocean, in the region of the Pinnacles of Azor'alq (with the Tovag Baragu to be incorporated at a later date). My first online game was set in the Land of Black Ice. I am working on notes for an undersea mega-adventure that will include Turucambi, The Sinking Isle, and the Jungle of Lost Ships. I also have a sylvan chat-based game concept set in the Suss, which will center around the lost city therein.

I mainly run my adventures in the Sheldomar Valley region, and much of the west too including the Sea Princes and Hepmonaland. A few of my adventures have run into the Baklunish west. I find playing in Tusmit and Ket to be such a cool diversion in a Grewhawk campaign. I (obviosuly) throw a great deal of mid-eastern themed elements when the campaign reaches that area. The players seem to love it!

Now after reading Dungeon #117, I think I will set my next sights on Sterich. The writeup in Dungeon was really good, and helps me use an area that I have not oftern used, The Marchlands!

I'm running a 3.5 campaign based on the 2e Against the Giants: the Liberation of Geoff with some material from the Geoff Living Greyhawk web page. But the game is on hold now. They're just fighting orcs and orges now. No hill giants yet :)

The Sterich article is great. I'm hoping to bring it into my campaign as the players reach higher level.

The Domains of Greyhawk would be a good place to set a campaign in. The article on Harby in Dungeon #107 IIRC is pretty good. There's a lot of stuff in the Slavers by Sean Reynolds thats good as well. Both of the books, Against the Giants and Slavers are easily adapted to 3.x.

Running a PbP here set in and around the Domain of Greyhawk about the return of the Slavelord.

I use to run a face-to-face game set in Tenh, based on a Rebellion started by the players. I changed some stuff though, to fit what I wanted. I made the falling out with Iuz much earlier and I change them from Human barbarians to Orcs (called the Strûm Ghûls in orcish it meant the Stone Fist), that were lead by a powerful Witch-King "Sha-Dor Doom"

While my PCs have traveled much of the Flanaess, the Western Nyr Dyv (in particular Furyondy, Veluna, and Highfolk) marks the core of my campaign. I think it's the ongoing battle with Iuz that makes this portion of the Flanaess so exciting. I suppose Furyondy could be compared with Gondor as a last bastion against Iuz (Mordor), or at least that's how matters have come to pass in my version of Greyhawk. Of course, in this instance Iuz is actually Tharizdun, but...the effect is much the same.

Other areas which I've used extensively are Greyhawk, Keoland, and the Baklunish lands. The Old Kingdom and the rest of the east are so far mostly untouched by my players, but that may change in time.

Can't wait for the Greyhawk maps in the upcoming issues of Dungeon magazine!

I have used primarily the Greyhawk region for my campaigns (what with Greyhawk ruins, the mysteries of the Cairn Hills and the Mistmarsh, the threat of the humanoids and slavers in the Wild Coast/Pomarj) but I recently ran a campaign in the Sheldomar Valley and it was a blast (pleeeeeeenty of opportunities for adventures of all levels and types in that region).

And truth be told, even my "Greyhawk City/environs" campaigns invariably go to the four corners of the Oerth and beyond as teleportation magic and good old-fashioned travel in search of adventure take over as player levels increase :)
