I've downloaded the evaluation version of this program today and have to confess that I would probably pay money even for this demo version. I've been looking for a simply to use mapper for a long time that produces good-looking maps and this seems to be it.

Is anyone else using it? Is the full version as good as I think it will be?

It is worth the money!

We use it regularly for both DnD and DnD minis. The fact that you can create your own tilesets is pretty powerfull as well.

Also with version 1.5 coming out in the next month or two - it should get even better.

Later!

Actually, I bought even before reading your comment but thanks for your feedback.

This thing is fantastic! I'm really surprised that there aren't more posts praising it. I mean, it's the first mapper I've used where I haven't needed to read the instructions and the maps can be used as battle maps.

I give it 99.9%.

Yes, but I have to wait for Dundjinni.... ;)

Also, I have yet to forgive Fluid for the eTools drink coaster, a disgraceful product that should have been published FFE to warn people that it was garbage....

Dundjinni looks nice, save for that price tag. I have a tendency to not use the RPG progs I buy that much, so $30 is a bit easier to swallow than $80.

Hey Deralbaskul, what kind of formats and dimensions does Gridsmith allow for importing? This will factor in on my decision to purchase.

Ruined,

Sorry but I really don't know. I picked it because it's easy to use and the maps look good. I'm not a techie and can't stand spending time learning how to use mapping-type programs.

Anyway, perhaps someone on the Gridsmith boards will know the answer to your question?

The attached file is made up of eight tiles and took about five minutes to do. Some of the resolution has been lost, of course, in converting it to .jpg but you have to love a program that can pump out a quick battle map like this is five minutes using eight tiles.

Currently it allows for PNGs, JPGs, and BMPs.

Download the GridSmith Help file for more details:

As for Dunjinni - been burned big once by Fluid - I will wait to see a finished product before jumping into it.
