GRIM TALES: Nerfing the Shotgun?

body armor designed to handle handgun loads will also stop shot dead, and will barely slow down a rifle bullet.

Heh, did you see the Mythbusters that covered bullet "proof" glass?
They made a bunch of cubes out of this bullet resistance glass, about an inch or so thick.
First they shot it with a .22. It made a little bubble in the side.
A .44 really seriously warped the material, but didn't get through.

Then they pulled out a 30.06 rifle.
The cube bounced slightly and there was a nice neat hole in the front and a matching nice neat hole in the back.

I've had my experiences with bullet resistant materials back when we ran a body art studio. We had our windows shot out regularly, so finally went the extra mile and bought bullet resistant windows.

The next night, they shot the window again, but this timethe bullet just lodged in the glass. Obviously someone took the bullet out later on (before we got back the next morning), but the dimple was still there, and we were able to determine where the bullets were being fired from - from the doorway of the community police station across the street from our place of business. (As a small community police station, it didn't have staff on at night).

Nice...

This thread makes me happy. Hellhound in post 6 has something of the start of a gaming manifesto, and Wulf is always a pleasure. Good stuff from everyone, really. I just wish I had something to contribute.

I'm glad we could entertain you so :)

A lot of my game problems disappeared when I changed the way I thought about pistols and shotguns and rifles and the like. The pistol is very much like the modern firearm equivalent of the dagger...every protagonist carries one, but they switch to more applicable tools when the situation changes.
