Sorry Agrippa, but as described you're engaging in "metagame thinking", which we folks here usually frown upon. ...

Ummmm... Not everyone wants you to speak for "we folks here."
I refuse to frown upon Agrippa's problem. In fact, I support him in his quest. Go Agrippa go!

If you read carefully, you'll see the "usually" in there. When I generalize, I usually put such qualifiers in there, just in case.

(Plus, the generalization is pretty darned sound. Metagame thinking is usually frowned upon around here. :p )

actually, i was suspicious before the fact that the characters had been "given" templates was ever known. someone dies, stands up and throws a fireball when they couldn't - or wouldn't - do it before is pretty suspect if you ask me.

i did cast detect evil; big whoop, no evil readings. that doesn't mean i have to stop being suspicious.
Ok so are still extremely suspicious that characters, who did not detect as evil, are in fact evil and not only evil but undead? Does this not seem like a bit of a stretch? You need proof. They rose from the dead. People rise from the dead all they time. It does not make them evil. You say no God helped them but how do you know this. Increases in power are not proof. Are you going to be all suspicious ever time some one levels up or learns a new spell? What do the characters say happened? Did you trust these people before thier deaths? I don't see why your character would be so extremely suspicious of characters that he use to trust as to plot their down fall?

If I was your DM, I would not have told you about the template. In my experience some players can not handle knowing things that their characters do not know.

what?

they did not detect as evil, but i don't necessarily think that's an all-clear signal. just because someone comes off as evil doesn't mean they are to be trusted. there are plenty of liars, con men & outright murderers that can slip past a paladin.

divinations have revealed that their souls were intercepted by a divine power and given a choice of death or life with some kind of service.

that's plenty suspicious to me. add that to the fact that one of the characters almost never says a word in game.

the only undead in the party is very very very obvious vampire type, who is not of the mysterious, divinely raised duo.

as it is, i'm just riding this one out, looking for small details and doing research. i definitely do not trust one of the two "unknowns" but we'll see what happens.
