we all are level 11 currently so hthis is the level he is allowed to make up to, would he not be allowed to do it til 12th though since he isn't actually planning on having a class level when he starts out?

Also the dm throws thigns on average agaisnt us of atleast CR 12-14 per mosnter 2-5 monsters all flying 3 out fo 5 times.

If he starts without a class level he would be an 11th level equivalent. He would get his Monster HD.

Are you using point buy or rolled stats?

I make his racial stat mods out to be:

+20 Str (+12 Troll, +8 half-Dragon)
+4 Dex (+4 Troll)
+14 Con (+12 Troll, +2 half-Dragon)
-2 Int (-4 Troll, +2 half-Dragon
-2 Wis (-2 Troll)
-2 Cha (-4 Troll, +2 half-Dragon)

HD Type = D10 (Base D8 from Troll, increased to D10 for 1/2 Dragon)

Total HD: 6d10 + 42 (79 hp) (Assumes max HP for 1st HD, and 5.5 hp per additional HD. Reduce hp by 4 if they don't get max HP at 1st level.)

He would also have wings and be able to fly.

I'd say a good Dominate Monster spell would bring him into line, but if you want to do kill him, you need to either pound him unconscious with subdual damage, then strip him and drown him, , nullify the ring, or overwhelm his Acid Resistance. (I.e. a Hasted Wizard with Empower and Energy Substitution Acid casting double empowered melf's acid arrows, acid balls, cone of acid, etc.)

Maybe, not sure. That's how I thought it worked, but I'm not an expert in this area.:D If it does work as you suggest, how come my drow didn't get any extra hit die? None of the +ECL races in FRCS get extra hit die. A Svirfneblin (which has hit dice in the MM right?) starts at 1st level, but is equal to level 4. However, he only rolls one dice for hit points and gets nothing extra. That's how I understood it to work and I thought any race works like that. If I'm wrong, can some explain why it works for monsters and not for "normal" pc races with +ECL?

DMG, bottom of page 22 and top of page 23.

Basically if your race has 1HD or less, that HD is replaced by your class HD, even if you have an ECL modifier. If your races has 2 or more HD, then you get those in addition to your class HD, but you don't get the x4 skill points or feat for being a 1st level character (you get your skill points and feats from your race instead).

Drow only have 1 HD, therefore you do not get any extra HD, same as if you were an orc. The differance is that the drow has special powers which make him equivalent to a higher level character.

Same with Svirfneblin. In the MM, they are a subrace of gnomes which have 1 HD.

A troll, however, has 6 HD. His ECL is +8. Therefore, a troll with 2 fighter levels gets 6d8 + 2d10 + Con hit points (his first d6 HD is maxed, just like a first level character gets max HD at first level).

The half dragon/troll in this example will have his half dragon/troll HD plus whatever his class HD is. Check the DMG pages 22-24 for these rules.

It's not that tough guys.

Combine this...

With this...

From the SRD spell, Hold Person

A winged creature who is held cannot flap its wings and falls.

So, he chases a flying, magic using creature (like a dragon or even a mid-high level sorcerer/wizard, for instance) far up into the sky, and the creature casts Hold Monster on him. He will most likely fail the Will Save, and fall for a rather large amount of damage, possibly incurring a Fort Save against massive damage... and he will still be lying helplessly Held on the ground.

Am I missing something (probably)?

Where/how would this guy be immune to cold damage?

Haste a wizard that casts a few cones of cold per round, throw in a magic missle for the heck of it.

Or, extended acid arrows, have that continuous damage last for tens of rounds.

Hod person, then cast empowered cause critical wounds. (4d8+12) * 1.5 = 45 points of damage on average. Better yet haste the cleric and cast it twice a round.

Energy substitution/admixture and throw sonic damage his way.

Magic Missle still works, empower it twice to do 1d4+1 * 5 missles * 2 (dbl emp) for an average 35 damage.

Heck, a web spell (perhaps enlarged to cover the necessary area) could trap this idiot.

vampric touch, or empowered vampric touch.

if the troll is using weapons, GREASE them. If not, cast gaseous form and cast silent still lightning bots, acid arrows, and magic missles.

That's about it for now....

Well, you are missing something, but he isn't immune to cold damage.

The Troll's regeneration means that any damage (including swords, cold, falling, etc) that isn't acid or fire is turned into subdual damage. Then, he regnerates subdual damage at the rate of 5 (not 3 as I originally wrote) points a round. So, he isn't immune. It isn't all that hard to knock this guy down. But actually killing him is a bit difficult.

Personally, I'd just find a way to teleport him into the middle of a deep ocean and be done with it :)

I also thought as kreynolds did. Not only did a dragon mate with a troll, a gold dragon did so. That's not very plausible, in my book. However, I can think of something nice that arises from it...

If you were a dragon, especially a gold, wouldn't you find this critter to be an abomination? Wouldn't you want to do something about it? I don't care how much he's got in protection, when the world's good aligned dragons are all out to get you, you will have problems :)

[edit: fixed incorrect regeneration rate]
