Unlike in 1e and 2e drow and svirfneblin have only 1 HD base as a monster in 3e. Monsters with more than 1 HD get their Monster HD plus class level. Monsters with 1HD or less lose their base HD if they are 1st level characters, even if they are +3 or higher ECL.

The 1/2troll had better beware incorporeal undead with stat draining touch attacks. (Well everyone should beware them but the troll has nothing to stop them).

Ok, so he has 79-ish hitpoints and regnerates 3 a round, big whoopteedo. 79 is EASY to do at 12th level. So now he's unconscious. You take all his magic items and acid arrow the crap out of him.

According to the SRD, Trolls regenerate 5 HP a round, not 3. I don't have the MM with me, does it say 3 in there?

Note that the new ECLs for trolls is +11 (see the recent Dragon mag), and I wouldn't be surprised if half-dragons are now +4.

But hey, even assuming that the DMG/MM is being followed, this guy is hardly invincible (even with his -- eek -- +10 natural AC bonus).

He's got fewer hp than most 12th level fighters, he's got a lousy Will save, and if he gets knocked to -10hp, he's down for at LEAST three rounds. Meaning that his opponents can fight the rest of the party, taking one hit every three rounds to stick a dagger in Trolly's head and put him at -10 again.

Not to mention take his ring and his other magic items .

He's really, really tough -- especially if you put a Pixie with an AM Field in his backpack and throw some adamantine armor on him --but he's far from invincible.

Probably tougher, overall, than most 12th level fighters, though. Especially the way the DM is letting him custom-buy his magic items. He's probably letting him take full gold for an 12th level character, too, which is unfair.
