Half elf/Half dragon question

So if I am making a character who's an elf but who has the half-dragon template added to him can I keep elf abilities or do I use the half elf abilities. I know in PHB half elf is for human/elf but since i'm adding the half-dragon template do I have to use half-elf template also? It makes sense to do have to, but perhaps not since that was only meant for half human/half elf and the other half of the dragon/elf is elf so he should still get darkvision +2 dex -2 int from elf instead right?

By the rules, you should take the normal elf race and put the dragon template on it.

This particular character would be the child of a Half-Elf and a Dragon, and therefore would be a Half-Elven Half-Dragon.

You're reading what he said wrong. This character is the child of an Elf and a Dragon. Hence its TECHNICALLY a Half-Elf/Half-Dragon...but not in the rules sense.
Half-Elf isn't a template, so you don't need to change your race. Instead, just apply the Half Dragon to the Elf. Simple way to think of this is not being a Half Elf/Half Dragon...but a Half Dragon Elf.

I don't know of a Half-Elf Template. Just take the elf and add the Half-Dragon template to it.

The normal ability score adjustment for an elf are +2 dex and-2 con but yes you aply both the elf and half-dragon ability score adjustments as well as all other traits. Wild elves have a +2 dex and -2 int.

Thanks guys. yeah sorry if i wrote badly but I meant Elf and a dragon but he was only "half elf" in reality but not the rules. I thought rules were just adding to elf with the template but wanted to make sure. And for writing the -2 int I was reading something right while typing the question and it had +2 int so I was thinking int instead of con. Brain fart. Thanks though guys!

1st: Half-Elf is nothing generic, template-like. It's a character with elf and human parents (or other half-elves). Since elves don't take lovers of any other core PC race in any frequency, there are no half-dwarf/half-elves or a "half elf" template (and, no, I don't think that you should have a cross-breed between orc and elf. Not that you wanted to have such a thing, but I somehow feel that we'll have that question again, and soon. It was to long since the last time).

2nd: Don't make it Green Dragon, they like to devour elves (fevourite food for Greens). And dragons are told not to play with their food.

I meant base creature not template for the half elf part. IE do i use the elves or half elves stuff like +2dex -2con, etc instead of half-elf which has none. Its been answered but thanks.
